    Not sure about June, but they were horrible in early August when we were there. I think it is weather dependent.

    As long as there’s some breeze should ok, midges can’t fly if it’s more than 3mph. That plus plenty Smidge spray. Late May till Sept they can be vicious

    It's always a risk in June. Go prepared and hope for a breeze.

    I am afraid you are likely to find midges but the quantity depends on the weather. Avon Soft Skin is generally thought to be the best defence.

    ‘Avon Skin So Soft’

    Thanks for the tip. We’re up there later on this year, and were a bit concerned about the midges.

    I believe the formula for the Avon Skin So Soft has changed and is not effective against midges.  It was the original version which was good for the job. frown

    According to the reviews (Amazon) it’s effective?

    Maybe they've realised they were on to a winner and reverted back to original formula then if sales had dropped off.  smile

    Stayed at Bunree many times, front row on the Lochside is best (no awnings though) as there is always an 'off the Loch breeze' that keeps the midges at bay, worst pitches are at the back where there is  a wet gully and is near the woodland. We mainly stick to May-June and have never found them to be a problem. Avon skin so soft or Smidge and citronella candles. Lovely Site.

    Well,  let's  start  at  the beginning  there's :--

    1 ]  Jungle  Formula     ==

    2  ]   Avon  Skin  So  Soft --  as  Jill  said  it  was  good  Even  the  military  used  it  in  Afgahnistan ( but  it  didn't  keep  the  Taliban  away)

    3  ]  Smidge  That  Midge  ==  Product  of  Aberdeen  Uni  I  was  told

    4+  ]  several  others  available  from  outdoor  shops ( Most  of  them  based  on  DEET   )

    5  ]  Ask  the  site  wardens  which  they  use  --  some  Club  Sites  sell  them {  No  no they  sell  repellents  not  Wardens  }

    Apart  from  the  "repellents"  there  are  obvious  moves  to  avoid  'em.

    West  Coast  of  Scotland  trees  &  water,  still  air  equals  Midgie  Paradise  so  if  they  start  biting  cover  up,  anoint  with  your  preferred  anti-midge  juice,  stay  indoors  undecided

    Midge  time  is  late  May  to  perhaps  mid  September  BUT  not  every  body  is  susceptible  to  them  --  I've  seen  one  person  in  a  group  of  six  get  bitten  to  hell  with  t'other  five  totally  unconcerned.

    Hope  you  &  yours  are  in  the  'other  five' gory.

    What  ever  happens  Bunree  etc  are  well  worth  the  visit

    Midges find their prey like mossies do, they find and follow Carbon Dioxide in expelled breath.

    My better half likes a still cider and breathes through her nose, never troubled. I however like a beer and I am a mouth breather.

    Boy do I get hit hard!

    Bunree in June? See if NASA have a space suit they will lend you.
