Route Advice - Pwllheli to Brixham
The AA and google are routing me along the A470 SE across mid Wales via Builth Wells to get from North Wales to meet the M5 towards Torbay. I tend to try and avoid towing long distances on rural roads- but to go via North Wales to get to the M6 adds 100 miles to the journey.
Has anyone towed this route across mid Wales? Suitable or is it worth the 100 mile detour to avoid.
I have 2 fairly young children - are there places to stop on the way? A Lay-by is fine.
Thanks

I prefer motorway & duel carriage ways when Towing & especially with kids in the car I would head up to the A55 around to Chester & down the A483, A5 Shrewsbury M54, (I live further north in north wales & use this route a lot towing & solo)
if I was feeling a bit braver, over to Betws y coed, A5 Llangollen, A483, A5 M54, etc

According to the RAC route planner, the differential in suggested routes is only a max of 40 miles with times being fairly similar. A well balanced rig should be able to cope with anything an A road produces, and motorways can get a bit boring.

An alternative to using M54,m6,m5, Is to take the A458 to Bridgeport then A442 to Kidderminister picking up the M5 at Worcester. This often doesn’t show up on route planers but is only a theoretical few minutes longer than going through Birmingham and about 20 miles shorter. This is the route we take is heading South West from Wrexham.

Agree with brue. The roadworks on M5 jct1 to jct2 are horrendous. If you leave M54 at jct 4 and follow A442 you will go past Bridgnorth and round Kidderminster. Bridgnorth to Kidderminster is quite twisty but okay. You join M5 at jct 6. Just south of Bridgnorth there’s a cafe on the right with plenty of parking.
