Triple bunk conversions
Hi. My wife and I are looking at replacing our current 5 berth with a triple bunk. Lightweight triple bunks seem to have gone out of favour in about 2012. So I was wondering if it were possible to purchase a newer double bunk and convert it to a triple bunk - can’t be that hard(?). My questions are; has anyone ever done this? If so is it best done by a professional ‘converter’. And is there such a thing?!? Thanks.

The furniture is usually part of the structure of the caravan and a major change can affect the integrity of this so I would certainly research this aspect before trying this.
The reason the triple bunks dropped out of favour though seems to be the lack of headroom this produces, which families could not live with. You need to look at the head room this produces and see if it is acceptable.

Modifying a van might affect warranty and give problems insuring. A bit like modified cars.

I’d be very wary of modifying a van for the reasons already stated. Also, weight could be an issue.

I had seen the Adria but it means purchasing relatively new. Piggy bank needs fattening first before going to market.

Triple bunks seem to be the Marmite of family caravans. Last season we pitched up in Pembrey and were surrounded by Bailey Bretagne S7’s. We spoke to one owner who thought triple bunks were brilliant.
We have a relatively young family and ‘petite’ children so a head room wouldn’t be a major issue...yet 🙂
