Cayton Village V West Ayton

Im thinking of a few days away with the teenage daughter in May over Scarborough way.  Cayton Village came on the network last year but it seems like a lot of the facilities are not in operation, presume in advance of the planned refurb.

I wonder whether anyone can give any advice and/or preferences for either Cayton Village or West Ayton

Many thanks in anticipation.

We stayed at Bridlington site(nice modern site) and drove to Scarborough P&R (Brid side)   much less traffic "stress"

From our point of view West Ayton is better positioned for touring particularly if you want to visit the moors or Whitby. We are happy with electrics water and waste disposal so the facilities are not a priority so it would not affect us what was available. They are first class though at West Ayton so it is probably the safer bet on that.

Only thing I could fault West Ayton on is that the walk back from the pub is uphill, but the electric bikes have resolved that one.

Drove round Cayton before The Caravan Club took over but did not fancy it. Bridlington was nice but a bit of a trip back from the pub (bikes fixed that now as well) - however, if the wind is in the east try to avoid the new section for a half decade or so until the trees get established!

Yes stayed at West Ayton, a lovely site, well laid out, good hard standings and all the seaside towns easy to get to.

An excellent site and well done to the club for making the purchase. We used this site before CaMC and stayed last year when the club took over...Think we may be the first through the barrier on opening day in March...

Bus stop outside entrance to Scarborough (and onwards to Whitby) one way....Filey/Brilington the other. P&R just up the road if required..

You are considering our home town..smile

Personally, I would much prefer West Ayton rather than Cayton ( home to McCains chips factory ). Ayton is a quieter village, my parents in fact used to live there. It's an easy walk to the Forge Valley Inn, there is a Shell garage with a village supermarket attached which is also an easy walk. Its an easy drive over Racecourse Rd into Scarborough and worth a ride inland to Pickering too especially if steam trains are your thing.

It's a long time since I was up there but my friends in the north recommend Killerby Old Hall - quite close to the Cayton village site but smaller and more personal - about 25 hard standing pitches they tell me.

Further to that my friends tell me that Killerby Hall complex of caravan site, caravan storage area, and guest accommodation is now on the market for a figure just shy of £2 million. I didn't make an offer.

We've only just returned from Cayton Village site.  We are trying to visit all the Caravan Club Sites, not including CL's.  Possibly because of our Rallying history we collect Plastic, in the form of Site Plaques.  On asking for a Site Plaque my wife got a right diatribe from the Warden.  "With all the work we've got on here,  Site Plaques aren't top priority, we probably won't even have them for next year."

I understand that this is an absolutely insignificant item for many people, think of it this way though.  When the Club name changed and corporate colours changed as well, all unsold green Plaques had to be destroyed and new White ones sold.  If the Club put the Plaques into Corporate Items status then every site should sell them.  It would probably take someone less than an hour to place an order for them.  There is then no involvement of Site Staff until the postman arrives with a package.

Strangely enough when we visited Cayton not long ago there was no visible CAMC signage so I'm not surprised to hear there are no club plaques or whatever. Maybe the changeover isn't yet complete?

Also, we discovered too late that pitches vary between 10 and 16amps, that our bollard wasn't working too well and there was no working MHSP (motorhome service point.) The wardens were friendly but will obviously be struggling till the refurb. takes place.
