Pitch etiquette

just on Clumber Park site for the weekend, can’t believe the lack of respect for people’s privacy. The worst site we have been on for people short cutting straight across pitches because they are too bone idle to walk the proper way round, passing right by the windows without a thought for respect or privacy. One guy even doing it 3 times on the trot, yes you fetching your gas bottle!!

Try fishing line. Hard to see, a swine to untangle. Mind it doesn’t get you though!😂

I see you've been reading a similar thread, sa64. I'm not sure anything can be added to the comments there.

It's not likely your 'gas man' will see this. Speak to him - he’s not gifted with manners or mind reading.

Yes it is amazing that some people think this is acceptable. I Agree with TW, just come out smile and say hello, I wonder if you wouldn't come across our pitch? That usually works, and if it doesn't then really nothing will, I mean you could see the warden, and I would personally if I was staying longer.

I always look at the site plan so if possible you can avoid using that type of pitch

We found the same at Clumber when the weekend arrived, the site was full and people just walked on our pitch and past our windows into the woods, we also had some on bikes. we would have wasted our time having to ask people to desist, there were too many. I think the gaps in the perimeter fence were too tempting. Don't know if this has been fixed? Lovely surroundings but not a site we'd rush back too.

Are we talking about walking on the grass between pitches? Some water points & bins are only accessible by walking on these grass fingers.

I've stepped outside to point out that I paid for exclusive use of my pitch so, unless they want to share the cost, would they not walk across it.

The 'best' case I've seen was somebody driving across a pitch at Lady Margaret' Park because he couldn't be arsed to drive around the right way off the grass pitches.

I think the design or lack of on some sites can lead to this behaviour, but we found on Clumber that the weekend was just plain busy and a bit too relaxed.

We visit Clumber Park itself on a regular basis, but know where to park up and get away from most folks. It’s not a site we would use unless we had to, it’s always had problems of one sort or another, despite best efforts from Club itself. Nice for a carefully planned day visit in the Park, but not somewhere we would stay. I am not adverse to politely asking folks not to traipse across my pitch, but wouldn’t do it there. I know the most likely response..........😲☹️

We have been useing Clumber Park since 1995 to visit some friends who live near Ollerton and were wardens there for three years,  ,and have always after the first couple of visits, tried to miss the W/end and evan more the Bank Holiday crowd as they seem to be completly blinkered as to there being any others on site, and give no thought for others,it is the same at FM a nightmare to run at those times

Never used Clumber as reports on it have put us off. I know the problem though and do try to use pitches that back onto a hedge or fence as the problem can be annoying.

It is inevitable on one or two sites though as footpaths do run through a hedge coming out next to other pitches.

Don't think that the paths are generally through what might be the awning area or between car and caravan though wink

Hi sa64 - The pitch you have rented from the Club is Strictly a 'No Go' area to other campers, animals and vehicles - Rule No13a (2017/18 handbook)

Marazion Club Site is an interesting one. It has a public footpath running straight through it, from a hole in the back lane hedge, down into area close to reception, then across pitches, exiting by back gate out onto road to Marazion and out into woods. It pees campers off no end when you walk three Airedales, all on leads and well behaved, through site every morning..........😇😂

People go to a campsite expecting privacy? That's a very strange idea. There is no privacy.

I totally agree with you , we are careful where we park to avoid the ignorant individuals who think its ok to walk through your pitch because they are to lazy to use the correct way .When I pay my pitch fee as far as i am concerned that area is for my use only during my stay I have no interest in excuses or reasons why they think its ok to walk past my window.someone said use fishing line but that could cause injury even through its tempting.

No coloured pegs, no tape measures to measure gaps, no encyclopaedia of rules, no checks on the angle of parking, and obviously a lack of wardens and pitch etiquette! Appalling.

They were all chilled out, had a really good time, drank beer, socialised and nobody died. Perhaps this is the way it should be!
