Wheel Balancing

I agree about common sense that's why I check them regularly but apart from that there is not a lot more I can do and obviously the government agree otherwise it would be a legal requirement

It’s completely your choice to ignore recommendations but you cannot check what is going on inside the tyre and cannot know what invisible damage the stresses and strains have caused.
Still, it’s only the safety of you and yours at risk - oh, and other road users. Take care out there.

Like I have said before who is doing the recommendations as neither a dealership nor a tyre fitters have ever mentioned this to me

Going to a dealership today to pick up some parts I ordered so will ask them what they recommend. While I am there I will have a quick look around their secondhand vans and check the tyre ages.

Yes it is my qualified experience, this is what I do for a living. And no I don't fit tyres I work on vehicle development programmes for automotive companies and have done for too many years. I understand the degradation of polymer compounds and why in this application tyres should not be 10 years old.
Also, from the club who have produced a very good technical paper on the subject:
"Caravan tyres need regular replacement, irrespective of their visual appearance. We recommend that you replace your caravan tyres when they reach five years old and should never be used when more than seven years old.
If your tyres need a high inflation pressure (50psi or more), you should check regularly for signs of deterioration from three years old and should not be used when they reach five years."
Now that's the advice from the club, they have no axe to grind or commercial interest other than to save their members from killing themselves and others and bringing yet more pictures of flipped leisure vehicles into the media.
