I wonder if any of you watched this new adaptation of Richard Adams Watership Down. I have not read the book so difficult to judge against the book or previous film. Seemed to have a stella cast although I was convinced the seagull was Billy Connolly rather than Peter Capaldi!!! It seemed very long and perhaps would have been better over four nights rather than two. Found the production quite difficult to follow at times because the lighting was so subdued, obviously for effect. I have mixed feelings about it, not sure its a recommendation to rush out and watch on catchup.

The book is quite dark actually, full of death and pseudo warfare. I used it on my first teaching practice with junior school children many years ago. Keehar the seagull is the funniest character in the book.

Can highly recommend Richard Adams The Plague Dogs. It is a truly dark tale of Man’s inhumanity towards other species, made me think very deeply about Lab animal testing. I have read Shardik as well, but can’t remember much about that one.

    Didnt see the TV film.

Shardik  I  seem  to  recall  was  nearly  as  'dark'  as  The  Plague  Dogs  TDA.

By and large  they  are  not  books  for  any  young  ones  who  are, perhaps,  on  the 'I  Like  Fluffy'  side --  truly  they  could  give  them  horrid  dreams.

We watched it.  Too long to keep your interest/attention.   Very hard to follow and dark filming.  Tamed down death scenes.  In our opinion the original film was better.

I've recorded it but now perhaps I won't bother. Never saw the original.

Worth watching, CY, although OH thought that the "bunnies" were not that easily distinguished from each other and didn't "look as nice" as those in the original film.

And Frith called after him, "El-ahrairah, your people cannot rule the world, for I will not have it so. All the world will be your enemy, Prince With A Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first, they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed."

Cetainly nothing fluffy bunny in the wonderful book!

Finished watching the second half tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. I also thought the seagull was Billy Connolly, but the titles said otherwise.😂
