Hello Val, how are you?
I stay here at home - and DPD, Yodel, TNT, Hermes, UPD and ParcelForce bring me things. I feel so sorry for those van drivers having to come right out here and still keep to their time schedules.

I'm fine that you Eutotraveller - but I've had three recent very disappointing purchases from t'internet.
1. Sheepskin slippers where the only part to have anything to do with a sheep is one small piece of leather - the lining, and 'muff' all being synthetic - and then having to argue how I know it isn't real wool and that he buys them as 'real'..........!,
2. A notebook with a price sticker on the front which can't be removed, and
3. A pair of 'silk' curtain.............. which have nothing whatsoever to do with a silkworm and everything to do with the cheapest nastiest polyester
Oh, and also, a delivery note to say it had been left 'behind the shed' - we don't have a shed, it isn't behind the logstore, and despite a thorough search we couldn't find it...............! Was it stolen by a stalker following the van driver around? If so I hope they really enjoy the glue sticks for my glue gun and that they fit their glue gun too!Instead I wanted to have a 'hands on' look at a wooden kitchen, or wooden shop for my grand-daughter - and they are big articles, so needed more than one pair of hands to get them into the car.............!
Living in Cornwall, as I know you do, you must either pay up in the summer, stay at home, or rather (oh, yes, I remember) go 'over there' where parking is often absolutely free even in popular tourist destinations!!2 -
I expect Euro is like many of us, Val, and probably avoids the tourist spots in high season.
The town and city car parks really aren't expensive in Cornwall. I’m going to Truro tomorrow - our biggest centre and our only city - I shall need a car park for a couple of hours and expect to have change from £3.
You've had bad luck with your internet buys but that’s not been my experience. I often shop on line rather than make a round trip of 50 miles to visit a particular shop.

Not all P&R's are accessible to MH's either. We stayed at a CL about a couple of miles from one but ended up driving ten miles to the one the other side of Ipswich. The only compensation being the Red Arrows flying over.

and if you have "Prime" even better no postage charges, no fuel used and no parking charges and alternative TV viewing to boot..

Whilst I agree that parking in almost any city is extortionate, we made our first trip abroad with the caravan this year and were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable parking fees in France. Prices that you feel comfortable paying and in some cities there were large free car parks right next to the main tourist areas.

Talking of city centre 24 hr car parking charges for the tourist, they really do make the likes of Rowntree Park look excellent value. Not only can you sleep overnight with excellent onsite facilities but you have the possibility of erecting an awning too.

As an aside, we found a lovely bit of discrimination the other day. Sure everyone knows that 60 year olds can have a free bus pass in Wales and Scotland. But how many know that London residents also get this? Hardly fair to rest of English!
You live and learn, I thought everyone over 60 got a free bus pass, didn't realise it only applied to London residents in England. I thought the only difference we Londoners have is ours is a freedom pass and we can use our pass on the buses anytime (no waiting until 9.,30). Also use them on the tubes, trams, docklands light railway and rail services with the Greater London Zone 1 to 6 areas. That is after 9.30 Mon to Fri, but anytime at weekends. Oh and half price on river bus.
But we have to wait until 9.30 for buses outside of London, which we occasionally forget, and get You are too early when try to board in the morning.

All correct - but the 'Oyster' pass (the one that covers from age 60 to the equivalent female retirement date relating to your date of birth) is NOT available outside Greater London….at any time! You will need to get your 'proper' bus pass first!

Oh yes - and I think the GL residents pay £20 for their 'Oyster-card' so not totally free (although certainly good value for money!)

I've looked up London Council's Freedom Pass eligibility. You now have to be 66 years old to get an older persons freedom pass, so it is in line with the rest of England.
To deviate from the subject of carparking charges in Cornwall, is why have Cornwall Council done away with the radar key system for access to disabled toilets. Excuse the pun but it is very inconvenient.

I can’t speak for the Council's reasons but I think those toilets are now accessible to all. Some parts of the country are closing public toilets so perhaps we should be grateful they remain.

For true discrimination in terms of public transport, take a look at the spend per head in various regions of UK. A free pass is academic where we live, there’s little linking even less to use it on!

Cornwall bus pass free to good home. As yet unused.
Why unused? I can get an afternoon bus into town (8 miles away), but then I would need to stay overnight in a hotel to wait for the next bus back - it's in the morning.

The bus pass that we have (that is available anytime in our county)as has been found in plenty of areas of England when they want to cut bus services were not being used,there was a big outcry when a quite decent rural service in Hertfordshire (every hour)was to be taken off it was found that most of the buses were carrying one or two "customers" out of the peaks and even then one the most used bus had less than 20 on board,
There was a huge outcry when Dr Beeching did his bit,i have a copy of his reports and it was the same on numerous routes one only had five passengers a week (though the route which was then closed for that part)
Remember the "subsidies" are also based on county populations and our county for the size is near the top for inhabitants
