Hi looking for a good cl close to a village or town in Somerset, I got a dog so walking is needed and a local shop and pub would be nice. Many thanks

Here's another one, close to the larger club site in Cheddar. LINK

Try looking around Minehead, Burnham etc, there are quite a few possible places.

Forton House, near Chard is worth a look. Lots of walking opportunities nearby and dog friendly. Depends how close to a town/pub you want to be though as I don't recall either being within walking distance.

Somerset is a large county with vastly differing landscapes and what makes a CL ‘good’ is pretty subjective. It would be useful if the OP gave some clues as to area and the type of site he/she likes.

We had a bad experience at Gooseslade CL, and there isn't a shop or a dog walk, except along the lanes, close by.

Barrow Farm, Rode nr Frome has 3 Hardstanding pitches and an off road footpath from the site, ideal for walking your dog. There is a pub and a small shop/cafe in the village.

More and more village pubs are offering short stays for motorhomes (but not for caravans) . You can locate them on www.searchforsites.co.uk for the part of Somerset which interests you.

Sorry to hear you did not like it Nellie; what went wrong?

Having booked a H/S pitch we arrived to find that all were taken, the field was too soft to use & we had to pitch up directly in front of the house, & between it and the entrance gate. We were also 7th van on the site!! Need I say any more?

Take a look at Alice Street Farm. Stayed two weeks last year. Level hardstanding fully serviced pitches. The toilet/ shower room very clean. Access to a field off the corner of the site or down the lane to walk dogs. Only five pitches on cl but they were making two more nearby.

Stayed on a CL near Wells in October. Was perfect for the dog and about 2.5 miles from Wells. A few minutes in the car and a public footpath to go on foot.

Well behaved dogs are welcome in Wells Cathedral. Mt spring enjoyed the free guided tour.cool

Can't remember the CL name but the owner name is Mr J Jones. It was £10 per night including electric.

    Hope this helps Sif.

My error, embarassed of course both the cafe & farm shop were open. On reading the OP I took it to mean a supermarket type of shop.

Only five pitches on cl but they were making two more nearby.

Does that mean that it will no longer be a CL then?

    Planning for pitch rotation perhaps.
