Affinity 554 2016 , has a whirring sound that comes from pcb. Its  been suggested that its a cooling fan coming on to keep the unit cool.

However it doesnt come on wnen alde heating set to 3 kw. But comes on when the switch for the lounge ligts are turned on . Or the bed room lights are turned on . Im sure these are led lights so cant understand why the cooling fan , if there is one comes on .

Any ideas gratefully received

When you say pcb, what do you mean exactly? My understanding of pcb is printed circuit board. Is it the control panel, charger unit, master switches?

I think you will find it is a fan to cool the charging unit.

We have a new Coachman and have the same noise, it only comes on when there are a number of the LED strip lights on.

Doesn't happen with the heating or hot water just the LED lights but has to be more than 1.

    Hope this helps.

    Tammygirl ,

    Thankyou for your answer.

What you describe is exactly what happens .

What i dont understand is why a cooling fan comes on when 2 or more led lights are on . As I didnt think leds took that much power.

The Alde 12 volt pump isn't a very hungry beast, I think about 0.4 amps at the normal speed setting. Depending how many you put on and how large the LED arrays are, might it not exceed that?

Could it be to do with the lights being 12v so using from charger, while heating is mains?

However, heating pump, on ours anyway, is also 12v, so that is a bit odd.   Mind you, possibly the slight noise from the Alde pump masks the whirring?

unplug the hook up cable, thus disabling the charger (or turn it off) and put on a couple of LEDs....

if the noise does not come on, you will confirm it's the charger fan.

It is the sound of the cooling fan when a lot of 12v is being drawn via the transformer  when on EHu we have the same "noise"if we have all our lights on,it  normally "kicks in" when the toilet/shower room light is switched on

Tried as was suggested with the ecu unplugged. And there was no whirring when led lights turned on.

Thanks to all for their help.

I fitted some LED strips in the kitchen of our van to replace a faulty tube light and noticed that they cause the cooling fan on the PSU to come on as soon as they are on, whereas I can put every other 12v light in the van on at the same time (all LED bulbs) and it will remain off.  The LED strips shouldn't draw a large current, so it must be something about the LED strips that causes it (I wondered if they have some from of voltage regulator built in that 'confuses' the PSU making it think there's a voltage drop and thus a high current draw??)
