A Goalkeeper was  knocked  to the ground, attacked and punched by opposing fans when he went to retrieve the ball at the Hearts/ Hibernian match.  The Hearts goalkeeper  Zdenek Zlamal  slams Hibs fans who punched him in chaotic Edinburgh derby as new footage shows keys which fan threw at him stuck in net.  -----------------  Disgusting display of hooliganism.

    Mindless, morons.

Seen it all before in the 70's. Fences will be erected soon - and then another disaster awaits.  The old addage still stands......

Football is a gentleman's game, played by hooligans

Rugby is a hooligan's game, played by gentlemen

It  was  not  just  the  'keeper  under  attack,  Kennine,  both  "Assistant  Referees"  { linesmen  as  they  were  called }  as  well  as  one  manager  --  Neil  Lennon.  I  believe  at  least  six [6]  arrests  made.

Sad  to  say  it  appears  to  be  yet  another  example  of  religious  intolerance  in  sport.

And  I  add  my  +1  to  Jonray's  comment.

Thanks for the posts so far.  IMO,  unless the clubs clamp down on fans atrocious behaviour of attacking Players and Match officials, many people will vote with their feet and stop attending matches. Flinging coins on to the pitch area could result in somebody losing an eye.  Clubs need to increase the number of their security staff and give them greater powers.

Until FIFA stamp out the absurd behaviour of players on the pitch - the problem of hooliganism will not disappear. Players diving, cheating, surrounding the referee/linesmen over decisions, back-chatting, swearing etc etc. All of which, to my mind, incites poor behaviour on the terraces.

No one is allowed to talk to the referee in rugby except the captain. If they do contest any decisions, they and subsequently the team are penalised, therefore letting their side down. Nothing will ever change in football until a similar protocol is introduced.

One of the worst obnoxious habits is spitting which is as most bad habits is followed by the very vulnerable young fans who think it is acceptable to follow their "examples " in public placesyell

Jonray,  I  doubt  very  much  that  there  will  be  any  improvement  in  the  conduct  of Players  when  stupid,  stupid  stupid  summarisers  continue  with  such  comments  as :--  "He  had  to  foul  him  to  avoid  giving  a  goal  away"   or  even  "  he  took  one  for  the  team"  when  a  player  deliberately  commits  a  bookable  offence.

I  detest  cheats  and  cheating  in  all  it's  forms.

AND  I  was  not impressed  with  THAT  CHALLENGE  at  the  end  of  the  England  R.U.  game  on  Saturday,  seemed  almost  as  if  the  Officials  were  trying  their  hardest  to  call  it  a  fair  action  despite  the  t.v.  evidence !

I actually fell asleep during the England  -- Czech Republic  match tonight embarassed so I did not hear if any racist chanting took place.  Probably not, since the fans most likely had some other comedy show on their mobiles  wink

Yes, but in these instances it's not the players is it.

Couldn't say-Soccer is a gentleman's game watched by holigans. Rugby is a hooligans game watched by gentlemen.  Could we?surprised

But it's not the players who are the problem, it's the spectators or at least a small but very vocal and visible section of the spectators as witnessed in last night's England soccer game in Bulgaria. The English spectators, or some of them helped little with their audible antics during the home teams national anthem. They are all despicable morons! Unfortunately racist abuse is the highest hate crime in our country too! Sad but true!

+1, you’ll never control the right wing knuckle draggers. Ban the National team from playing home games for 1yr-sorted, if they continue extend it for another year👍🏻

Just look at the stands in Japan at the RWC. Opposing spectators and neutrals sitting side by side just enjoying each other's company and the banter between. I just love it every where I've been at home and abroad. You have to ask how?

BUT It IS the players in the Mixed Hockey / Lacrosse part of our posts, Mickysf,  wink.

That was a little aside from / between  TDA & myself.

As for the rest of your post I'm with you and Rocky as far as soccer goes -- but  if the matches are called off or abandoned the fools will consider themselves to have won, I'm afraid

The whole issue related to the OP is spectator behaviours. Although I understand the side conversation between the two of you it is irrelevant to the issue. I merely attempt to focus back on this as you do in your final paragraph of which I totally agree. One suggestion now is for them (Bulgaria) to be banned from future tournaments until they can prove they have kicked racism out.

The ‘fools’ as you so respectfully put Muscles will also become ostracised by sport lovers & proud Bulgarians of which I’m sure outnumber the knuckle draggers👍🏻. It will take time it’s a change of mindset.

It took a generation to bring some semblance of a kind of normality to British terraces, it will be slow☹️

But those British terraces were turned into seating areas for obvious reasons and loads of fans still refuse to be seated. Now they are trying to get something like "Flip-up" theatre seats  or so it seems. If the relevant authorities REALLY wanted to keep the fans calm and safe I would have thought they might have ordered stands to be closed for a few weeks or so, until the 'fans' learned that good conduct was not just a choice but vital to everybody's safety.

    I will say no  more.
