Archie's Camping - November 2018 update
For users of Archies Campings there is a new update available on line at www.archiescampings.eu from this weekend. This will be the last for this year...... so if you're planning to go away in the next few weeks make sure you download the updates now.
For those who don't use Archies Campings I should explain that this is a website which offers downloads of POI's for more than 33,000 campsites in the UK and the rest of Europe, for almost all types of SatNavs. There is also an App available, for a small fee, which has free updates.
This time even more campsites have been added, particularly in Germany, where more than 200 new sites are now included.
Archie asks that everyone who notices anything different about a site, from the information on his website, (opening hours, phone numbers, etc) to let him know via the contact button on the website. In this way the information can be kept up to date.

Thanks Val. What on earth did we do before Archie came along!

Not wishing to be thick but can Archies only be 'view' using a satnav.
I like to semi-plan a route and tend to use my laptop to do that. In the past I've used the Acsi DVD, we have the last version but its soon going to be out of date and of course doesn't have all the sites on it that Archies does.

Hi Tammygirl,
If you visit my website you will find in the menu the option to view all the campsites by satellite.
The most easy way however, as Val wrote above, is to download the Archiescampings app on your laptop (Windows 10 is required) for only € 2,99 once and you will receive each month the latest update of the database completely free.

If you don't want the app you can load the POIs into most satnavs - for example, for Garmin you choose the Garmin csv option. If in doubt your satnav website should give more info or post again here with the model and someone will probably have a similar device.

Thanks for the info.
I've done as you advised and installed Google Earth, I then clicked on the country, a bar opened at the bottom of my screen I clicked on that which takes me to an app to view poi's. I have now looked an installed one, a map then opens up with lots of pins on it giving site names and the option to navigate to the site.
Great so far but I can't see anywhere where I can 'see' the site. By that I mean how big is it, does it have a pool, when is it open etc.
Couldn't get anything to work with Google Earth so couldn't get to view by satellite. I know I must be doing something wrong but not sure what. I have a new laptop with windows 10 so that shouldn't be the issue, user error is the most likely

Thanks Ian, we have an Aguri which I'm sure we could download all the POI's but I like to 'see' the sites not just pins on a map that don't tell me anything about the site.
There are so many sites in France that I know we miss out on if we just use the Acsi books. I personally am not a fan of the C&MC overseas guides. So looking for another 'guide' to find some of the lovely sites that we hear so much about.

Tammy girl.
Assuming you are using on a laptop (ie Windows), when you click on the 'A' (designating a campsite) on the map, it brings up a pop-up window, with the campsite name at the top. Click on that and it brings up various links in your browser to such as the campsite's own website, tripadvisor, euro-campings etc - all with reviews and pictures etc.
If using on an ipad, same principle applies, but first a small window with site name and 'i' (for info) appears. Click on the 'i' and in the resultant window, click on the search (magnifying glass) icon at bottom left of pop-up window, to take you to same browser options.
PS. should say, this isn't Google Earth, it is via the Archies app.
Good Luck

With the holidays just around the corner and the coronavirus on the way back, I expect that we will all go camping this summer, either in our own country or abroad.
If you make use of www.archiescampings.eu,I must urgently advise you to download the latest update before the summer and install it on your navigation, because, as always, a lot of data has been adjusted. (Please, also read the news text on the website.)
Of course you can also download the app to receive automatically the latest data every month.
Please, note that te opening dates are not always reliable or current, now more than ever due to corona restrictions. A phone call or email to your destination in advance can avoid disappointment.
Have a nice holiday everyone!
