Adapting motorhome to ‘U’ shape?

Has anyone changed their motorhome living area from 2 inward facing settees to a’U’ shape?

Economically it sounds much better but what are the snags and is it satisfactory to do it, either ourselves or put it out to the experts.

Any advice please....

I take it your motor caravan has a rear lounge? and to convert it to an U shape,if you are and good at DIY i would attempt it myself,as where would you find an "expert?"a dealer?undecided

Have a look at other LVs with what you are thinking and take notes

We went the other way and converted our U shaped lounge. We took out the middle short seat and back and replaced it with a 2 draw chest with a pull out table top. We found this of more use for the 2 of us than the silly little centre seat.

We are planning a months tour around  Scotland next April/May. Plenty of time to sort it out and book but could anyone give guidance and short circuit our investigations from their own experiences? We have a motorhome.

Any advice as to our choice of timing as we could shift it.

Thankyou in anticipation also thanks for all useful tips on past enquiries.

You'd be better off posting this as a new thread in the UK Touring section.  Not many people will see it under the original heading.  Perhaps one of the moderators could move it for you?

I don’t think they can move individual posts, InaD.

Yes, start a new thread in UK Sites and Touring but look through the existing threads first and do some research of your own so you can give us clues about what you want, Horizons. Your question is rather vague.

We have purchased a new motorhome as we have done regularly for 25 years. This is from a large reputable dealer. The insurance company are refusing to insure this as it said panel van on the registration certificate. Have the rules changed? What a lot of inconvenience this is causing us. Any guidance please.  We have always done it in the past.

Might it be with the company you are trying to insure with? Have you tried others including the Club?

if the vehicle has been converted properly and has a bed and cooking facilities, it should have been changed to 'motor caravan' on the V5C.

should be easy enough for the dealer to do for you.

if it's a well known branded conversion, I'm surprised this hasn't already been done?
