Recommended by Whch? Magazine which is usually a good sign, but as with other breakdown companies who sub contract to local operators it depends on whom you get coming out to you on the day, how busy they are, what greater priorities they have, and so on. The reviews on Trust Pilot cover all those scenarios.

I have no knowledge of the firm but looking at the web site it looks lacking against Mayday, if you have a caravan. I did not find a full policy wording though and cannot be sure if there is any length limit.
The policy does not apparently cover you if
1. You have a fault with the caravan. This would mean you having to pay for its recovery and could be very expensive.
2. if the caravan is on a site. That could mean if the car breaks down and the caravan is on a site when on tour, they will not recover the caravan from the site if you need a tow home.
3. It is not clear where they will recover the caravan to. If it is where they drop off the car this may be of no use to you.
4. You do not get the double recovery option which to many will be important. This would apply to motorhomes as well as caravans.
If you have a motorhome then the difference is less clear apart from point 4.

My parents and children use Start Rescue for solo recovery. They have all used them a number of times and received excellent service. They are a budget provider but on the whole we are really pleased with them. We were surprised that they also recovered following an accident - both boys had accidents in their first cars and were both recovered either to home or a garage (their choice). My eldest also had a recurring problem with his first car and they recovered him a number of times (I think you are limited to 6 call outs per year).
We haven't however used them for towing at all as we're with CMC.
I wouldn't have any problem in recommending them as a company.

I would be wary of non specialist breakdown coverage if you caravan. I have the other club's breakdown cover and just recently had another mishap which was the electric cable somehow escaped and wore into two pieces on the road. Rescue was quite quick although getting through on the phone was quite a time on hold! He did a good job of reconnecting but the end result was the cable still only 5 inches off the road which he declared fine. I didn't think so when you take bumps in the road into consideration so I attached a bungee after he had gone. That was about three weeks ago and hopefully all will be well until I get home to get a new cable done and I will ask for a more realistic length this time. Even though he got the height wrong in my opinion would a car mendy man manage all those wires? Also would they listen to important things like not jacking up a caravan at the wrong point?

Have used Green Fla g, purchased via the club, called them out twice in the past three years.
Very satisfied with their response,
1) Towed Van and car out of a mud hole in which we were bogged down.
2) Tow car expired on the M3, trailered car to depot and towed van there with a Landy, then gave me a tow car for the rest of my three weeks holiday.
3) after the holiday they delivered my car to repair garage and took their loan car away.
Cannot fault them!
