New Bailey Caravans

Hi,

Hope this is not a repeat question, I was wondering if anyone thinks that Bailey have made a an error by not fitting as standard the Alko ATS system to new caravans except the Unicorn range.

Maybe other manufacturers are also doing this not sure ?

Myself I think that such an important piece of safety equipment should now be a standard fit to all caravans and not an optional extra as a dealer fit. Cost around £500.

My current Pegasus had the system as standard and on some trips out when it has been windy I have definitely felt the benefit when the system has been applying the brakes to keep the van under control and steady.

How do the Bailey ranges without this system compare to other brands at similar price points? Prior to having a motorhome I towed various caravans over 80000 miles without the benefit of such a system so difficult for me to comment of its effectiveness. However manufacturers will at the end of the day try and be competitive with their rivals and with increasing pressure on prices that may mean leaving off nice to have equipment?

We have been towing for a "few" years and our latest caravan a Bailey Pegasus has ATC and to be honest have not noticed it "activating"in the nearly three years we have been towing it ,and that is in all seasons and most types of conditions, and as manufacturers are for ever trying to "satisfy"the ever increasing quest to make caravans bigger and lighter,  so any way of saving weight and costs is going to "help"

Nice to know it’s there but like JVB in 4 years of towing a Bailey Valencia I never noticed it activate. Maybe Baileys customer feedback is saying the same?

There was a time not so long ago when new caravans seemed to be a reasonable price but they now seem to be very expensive and this must be partly due to the ridiculous “essential” features that are now included. I’ve still got the Avtex TV supplied with our Bailey which we kept when it was traded in. Never used it in the van but quite useful as a spare at home. £400 or so to buy new at that time.

Bailey like all manufacturers operate in a competitive market and have to judge if purchasers at each price point will pay the extra for this. On the top model purchasers want and expect it, but as you move down then purchasers will be less inclined, so it then becomes an option.

The same is true of all makes.

Our Bailey Pursuit bought new in 2014 came without the ATS, so I paid the extra £400 or so (at the time) for the upgrade.

Can't say whether it ever activated in practice, but to me the peace of mind alone was always worth the upgrade cost.

So no regrets opting for the ATS, but the same cannot be said for the caravan itself, with continual leaks from just two years old finally driving us to sell it.

As a result I'd never touch another Bailey if you paid me, so the presence or absence of ATS is rather moot.

Don’t have a Bailey but do have ATC and to be honest I wouldn’t be bothered if it didn’t have it
