Searched to see if this has been discussed before, but could find nothing. SO  Why ? are the Facilities (shower/toilet) blocks closed in the Mornings, when most members want to use them?

Surely the most sensible times would be in the Afternoons between  2.00 and 4.00pm  When they are only lightly used and their closure for cleaning literally would inconvenience (pun intended) the least amount of people. What do other Members think ? or is it just me who likes a lie in when on holiday ?

I’ve been on sites where some facility blocks are closed pm.

Some of the CAMC sites we stay at do have pm cleaning. However, whilst I appreciate some folk like a lie in, when cleaning is in the morning it does not normally start until 10:30.

Yes somewhere past 10 is the normal time. On some sites where there is one set of wardens then they have to do it in the mornings and close the office, if they did that in the afternoon that would affect new arrivals. I've never found it a bother personally and past 10 is where we are usually off site and perhaps many go off site by then?

Unisex toilets and showers while one gender section is being cleaned. Common all over the western world.

On the majority of sites there is an alternative toilet available when others closed for cleaning, and as they are norma ly closed for about an hour out of the other 23 how much more time is neededsurprised

May be the afternoons might be when most members arrive on site and staff need to attend to them. Never seen blocks shut first thing in the morning when most folk ablute. Usually closed mid to late morning in my experience. Often with sites with multiple blocks there is never a time when no toilets are available. Also most ground work takes place after dew has gone and pitches are being vacated so afternoons may also be taken up with this work. More staff or contract cleaning  I guess equates to higher costs and prices which many will not wish.

When caught short and in dire need there is alway ones own facilities on board.

At the last site we were on the loo block nearest to us closed at 9:45. That’s exactly the time I like to shower on holiday. No problem on the main site we use in France, as the toilet blocks are never closed. They are cleaned very very early morning, before anyone is up & about and in high season the cleaner moves around all day.

    Well said One

I'm very grateful to the hard working staff who clean the wash rooms. I suggest you try and use the facilities either before or after they get cleaned and that way you won't have a problem! Simples 😁

Of course if one can't adjust ones timing to suit and can't be bothered to walk to that other available block (where applicable) and won't use ones own facilities then there is a last alternative. However, that's pants!surprised

The on-site public lavatories have to be cleaned.  The site staff always clean them to a high standard.  That means that they have to be temporarily closed to the public at a time which best  suits that work being done  ------ End of.

Our local shopping centre  and local Sainsburys don't close the toilets to clean them , they just put a notice up saying "cleaning in progress", and everyone goes about their business as normal ….

When we’re on holiday we too like a lie in. Then shuffle out of bed and into our own bathroom, no faffing about getting dressed just to get undressed a few minutes later across the site.

ray - you're an old hand on this forum (no offence! wink) so I'm surprised you're unaware of how often this has been raised before! I actually prefer to shower in the afternoon,  when we've come back from a day out walking. If the block is closed for cleaning then I just have a cuppa or a beer and go later. Closure of the facilities is inevitable at some time and will always inconvenience someone.

BTW - I understand that in some places, not only is the cleaning done without closing the facilities, but the cleaners are also better looking, more cheerful and will even towel you down after your shower if you ask nicely -  I don't know how we cope with the poor standards on club sites! laughing

Have to admit, it's one of the niggly things that irritates us when using Club Sites, we like to walk dogs and have a leisurely breakfast some mornings before showering, impossible if loo blocks close at 10am.

All the talk about having to clean them in morning doesn't hold true. Sites could operate perfectly well if one person is in office while other cleans, then swop over. Just don't start the cleaning until after 2pm. A lot of folks will be off site, it's not peak shower time, and it's past that initial book in peak period. And the office is staffed, continuously. Might need to tweak things dependant upon time of year, or school holiday times, but perfectly doable.

Its actually one of those things classed as value with us. If I pay Club Site prices, I expect to have showers available at my convenience. On a lot of sites, they won't be, so we go on CLs, sometimes at a quarter of the price, and use our own facilities.

You have made a good point AD. It was remiss of me not to add that it was the CMC on- site Public Lavatories.

Having Motorhomed extensively in Continental Europe, I can confirm that there are Excellent Facilities blocks there, which are cleaned many times a day and are never closed to campers. The standard of cleanliness is of a standard that regular cleaning throughout the day can only achieve.

    wink

but aren't we the customer?  surely they should work around us & not the other way round. Having said that, the last few sites we've been on have had the shower/toilet block closed early afternoon rather than mid/late morning when I suggest most would like to use them.

actually it is. If you want to come to a club site then you have to abide by it's rules and it's current practices. If you find them not to your liking then go elsewhere.

No one is forced to 'endure' what the club has to offer

indeed you are but if you don't like what is being sold, and really these times are not a new thing in clubland, then don't buy?

Yep.  That's the rules.  Arrive when you are told. Park how you are told. Wash when you are told. And leave when you are told. I took your advice and gave all that up some years ago.
