Sat nav Snooper/Avtex tourer one plus
a couple of years ago i bought the Snooper sat nav primarily because that was what the club were pushing at the time. I am now on my second device which has again failed at the USB power connector, same fault as first device. I believe this was a known problem as they introduced a new cradle that supported the power lead which they hoped would fix the problem of the USB power connector becoming detached from the main board, it didnt. Performance products are now offering me a new device at 25pct discount = £277, I have told them this is unacceptable and that i will contact my local TS office if they are not prepared to provide a new device FOC, however , my question is this, has anybody bought the Avtex tourer one plus, now being pushed by the club, and is it any good, or are there better products on the market, I see now the Snooper is being pushed by the C&CC. I will admit i no longer have a guarantee for Snooper but i believe my problem is a known problem and as it is in their words beyond economical repair they should provide a new device.

Tbh, I didn’t realise you were asking a question, Rufs, as I thought it was a complaint about your Snooper.
We have the club’s Avtex Garmin without the dashcam add on because it’s a standard fitting in our van. It works well but I’m not sure I’d pay the asking price for it.

thats ok, it was a bit of a rambling post with the question embedded. These so called specialised sat navs are very expensive, and the annoying aspect is that they all, as i understand it, get their maps from 1 or 2 sources, tart them up a bit and then make all sorts of claims as to how good they are. I like the idea of built in dash cam and a good dash cam could cost you £50 - £100, but £400 for a sat nav

I agree specialist sat-navs are not cheap, but they are based on truck sat-navs so the cost of the specialist map databases are much more expensive than car ones, which contain much, much less information. Having used both over the years I'd still pay the extra, but that's a personal thing.

There’s a benefit to having two separate units, Rufs. If one part breaks, you don’t have to bin the whole thing.
