For anyone going to Old Hartley site

And girl it looks so pretty to me just like it always did
Like the Spanish city to me when we were kids
That's a few lines from one of my favourite songs and anyone visiting Old Hartley can from Monday visit the restored former landmark of the Spanish City.

Listening to that song in 1980 little did I know that for 9 months I'd end up living within walking distance when I started teaching in Wallsend. Think I'll take a run out next week.
Bonus question: name of the song and group?

Feel the same about the sax solo on Hazel O'Connor's Stay Now.

More Dire Straits fans here......seen 'em Live, brilliant. We bought a Canadian canoe from a couple who had a nice house overlooking Tyne and bit where cruise ships dock. Very nice and interesting. We went back up, had a couple of nice stays at OH. Lots to see and do from there.

Not a fan but for all you aficionados....you can re-live your miss-spent youth here.
We've actually booked a few days at Old Hartley this year. We spent a lot of time huddled together on the beach in "summer" when my sister and family lived up there.

I've never heard of the Spanish City but what a fabulous place it looks now it's been restored. Well done NTC.
Thanks for the heads up, Corners.

It's quite fascinating up there, and easy to get around as Metro railway links up and along coast and into central Newcastle. OH is a quirky site, no room to swing a cat between outfits, but for a few nights, we loved it!
I am off to buy some Dire Straits on ITunes!

Think this is a much better version, in concert, rather than sterile miming:
