My daughter was visiting her local beach today with her children and their 1 year old spaniel. The little bitch dog is quite well behaved for a youngster, friendly and submissive. She ran towards a large family who had five dogs with them, one of them a lab cross. My daughter's dog stopped about 5 metres away from this family and looked to my daughter for permission to approach the other dogs, as she always does. At this point the large dog rushed over and bit her on the back, causing her to run to my daughter yelping. Daughter left her dog with her girls, went over to the family to ask why this dog wasn't on a lead. No apology or concern just the excuse that my daughter's dog 'was in its space'!!! On a beach, 5metres away, unbelievable. Last week my friends little dog was picked up and shaken violently by a larger dog on the beach. My friend had to kick the dog to make it drop her little one.Why oh why can't some people control their dogs.

Sadly irresponsible dog owners! I do hope your daughters dog will be OK.

A work colleague was at the top of cat belles with her daughter and grandson. When an off the lead dog bit her grandson, no provocation 😲.  Needed stitches on his groin. Asked dog owner for their details gave false name and address including postcode, as later discovered by the police, without batting an eyelid. Claimed it had never happened before, but info they gave would suggest otherwise! Lots of witnesses but all of no use. Very sad.

That's horrible Bakers hope the lad is ok. Maybe the dog had bitten before. It was fortunate today that my 4 year old granddaughter wasn't running with the dog as usual, or it might have been her! A few months ago a dog was annoying a friend's horse on the beach, the dogs owner didn't seem to think it was a problem, until the horse gave it an almighty kick.

We were on beach this weekend and French bull dog bit my dog while on the beach. They did say sorry but the dog should have been on lead and have mussel on if they know its going to bite other dogs or children. Sadly I am aware that a dog biting another dog is not taken seriously by police, a dog biting a person is. Its lack of resource and prioritising I suppose.

I hope your daughters dog is better soon.

All goes to prove that dogs should be kept on a short lead at all times when in public spaces.  The breed of dog doesn't matter, if not under contro,l they are all capable of attacking or defending.

The incident reported in the O/Post would never have happened if both dogs had been properly under control.
