Kia Sportage AWD clutch failure

My 14 plate KIA with 7 yr warranty and 46000 miles on the clock suffered a clutch failure on our journey to Yorkshire hoping to enjoy a 10 day tour but had to be transported on a breakdown truck with the caravan back to essex.

No kia garage could fit me in for over a week but one did offer to try and look at it sooner if I could get the car on their forecourt, which I did, and the car was repaired within a week. Unfortunately kia did not approve the new clutch under warranty as it was down to wear & tear.

I have been driving since 1964 and never experienced a clutch failure even though recording 120000 miles between some car changes so don't feel my driving style is excessive on clutches.

I would not expect the clutch to fail through wear & tear in only 46000 miles on a AWD SUV vehicle and the towing miles only 6000 ish. Has any other members had clutch problems in particular with KIA

I did think the towing performance of the sportage was excellent and a pleasure to drive with the caravan in tow however I am not happy with their customer care and so called warranty.

Sorry to hear about your spoilt holiday, but.....

I would think that after 4 years and 46k miles, some of it towing, you have zero chance of convincing any manufacturer that this is anything other than fair wear and tear............

You read in the motoring press of manufacturers wriggling out of clutch replacements at much lower mileages......

Might be worth considering an auto next time....?

dual mass flywheels have caused clutch problems for years and most new cars come with only 6 months clutch warranty at the most. get a auto and relax.laughing

As long as it's a proper auto or you could end up with replacing 2 dual mass fly wheels  😉
