Help for the elderly
Having just bought our first motorhome, and never camped before, also being of that silver haired age group I wonder if the members would help us.
We are planning our trip, with 2 elderly doggies, that can walk a decent distant, but just love water and the sea, we would like to go to somewhere near Filey and wondered if anyone could suggest a site that once parked up we dont need to move our motorhome again, but allows us to walk to a beach on or near Filey way or that part of the coast. Being very new at this, the need to be able to leave the van, as it takes us so long to get set up. i am sure we will get better at this, but its very hard work for us at the moment.

Breidlington caomes to mind, I believe there is good transport, there was a 'train' (well car and carrieges made to look like a train ) in to the town and indeed it is walkable as well.

Susan, I am coming at things from another side and wondering which beaches up there allow access for dogs in the summer months. I think Cayton Bay is one which does, but you will need to check out the regulations for other beaches before you choose a caravan site.

Both beaches at Filey have restrictions on dogs, so you will need to check out what those restrictions apply.
You have a bit of a dilemma there to be honest. It's either find a site close to transport, which will possibly mean close to a town, but the town's are where the restrictions apply! I know of some good sites, fairly close to dog friendly beaches, but unless you use your MH to go out and about, the transport links are limited! Bridlington isn't too bad a suggestion, because it does have that little train, but you will have to check out the beach restrictions. There's probably a small area where you can go, but I am just not sure. I will do some thinking......

I can recommend Browns at Cayton Bay a little further up the coast http://www.brownscaravanpark.com/ - a small commercial site opposite a much larger static site, where you can use the shop. However, it has it's own little pub, a bus stop directly outside which goes to Scarborough or Filey and Bridlington. The beach is across the road which easy access (not sure about dogs though).
We have stayed there a few times when visiting friends with a static. Pitches are hard standing and level and the toilets although old are very clean and tidy.

Susan - reluctant to share one of our favourite CLs in case we can't get in - but here goes!
Have a look at High Breame at Flamborough. Not exactly on the beach but it is walkable through Danes Dyke and there are lovely doggy walks through the woods on the way there and the beach is dog-friendly although a bit pebbly at high water. The bus stop is about 100 yards down the road - into Brid or wherever.
Totally secure site with fully serviced pitches, shower and toilet and John and Kim who run the site are the loveliest of people and will do everything to assist and make your stay as stress free and enjoyable as possible.
You need to book well in advance, though. It's a very popular site.

Bridlington walk out of the site cross the road to the golf course theirs a path that takes you at the back of the log cabins down to the front so l am led to believe. We are their sometime in August and will try and find it, we have been to the site on 4 or 5 occasions and love it but we have a caravan and always went in the car to sowerby and parked up.

I may be wrong, but I have a feeling that the beach from the Limekiln Lane area, north towards Sewerby is subject to the same summer-time dog ban that the majority of Brid’s beaches are. The only area that’s definitely OK in the summer is south of the southern end of the Prom towards Wilsthorpe.
