Lay bys and stopping places
Next week, I will be towing the caravan from West Cornwall to Lymington, Hampshire. Trying to be fair to other traffic, I would like to stop occasionally on the A35 to let any build up behind me go past. Are there a reasonable amount of places to safely pull over on this stretch? Advice would be very welcome please. I have looked on Google maps but word of mouth by knowledgeable past users would be most appreciated.

There are lay-bys, John, and it’s not a bad road on the whole. Possibly the Honiton-Axminster stretch is the most likely bit where you might delay others. I can recall one decent size lay-by on that section but can’t place it for you and can’t guarantee it’ll have space!
We often take a break on that road at Morrison’s, Bridport but that’s easier with a MH than a caravan.

Thanks TW. Will have a more detailed look at the section that you have mentioned. Your comment noted MM. Thank you. (I know you are correct)!

I usually find that while im driving to my speed limit it is someone in front that is causing a hold up. On the odd occasion i am the cause i play it by ear after all how can you tell where you are causing a tailback until it happens. On a occasions ive pulled across field openings or gone full circle at roundabouts.

It’s a tree lined road and difficult to see from the aerial view, John.

It's a bit long winded TW but I will pull the yellow man down and 'drive' at road level on the stretch that you suggested.

Best put a 'Caravanner using this lay-by' sign there when you find it, John.

It would be nice if you nip up there and put the sign up for me TW. I will send you the money for fuel later - honest!

Yeah, right . I’m probably only an hour closer than you are.
