Basically  I let the sun heat the awning. If it's not enough to sit in there we do, if not then we sit in the van. it is better economy to heat a caravan if required than an awning. As for bringing your caravan up to date I've no idea as I'm rubbish at diy. Different covers on chairs maybe.

It's a big 'No' from me too. I don't plug into my supply at home and try and warm the planet, so why do it on a site?

Just put your big coat on! 😀

Gee, Mickey, hope you’ve got your tin hat handy.

We don’t have an awning but you can heat it in any way you want. Halogen heaters seem popular. You’re limited by the amount of power available -10a, 16a or whatever - but it’s yours to use however you see fit although awning heating is considered wasteful by some.

Why heat the the planet when their is far more comfort in a caravan, just remember when heating areas outside the caravan as some do ,do not come on here moaning that the site bollard keeps trippingundecided

Hello MH👍🏻😊, you’ve woken up the finger Waggers with your thread I’m afraid☹️. Your comfort is your affair, you don’t live your life to others demands as much as some posters will try to control your choices. Your life-live it😊

Everybody has the right to use the site electricity to suit their needs.   I personally have never used an awning heater,  but others may need to use one.   The CMC have no restrictions on awning heating so just go ahead and use your heater.

If it's that cold then move indoors or, as said, put your big coat on. smile

Regarding updating your van, I've seen lots of pictures of ideas such as painting the interior wood; changing flooring, adding throws and brightly coloured cushions and, dare I say, adding bunting.

I often wonder at some of the silly things folks ask such as how to update a caravan, but then some folks can't boil an egg, flush the loo, etc....

I have lots of ideas and experience on how to do up an old caravan, but as it is my brain cells in use, it will cost...........wink

we have tried fan heaters but they can be nosily and they often interrupt any naps you may have. Halogen heaters are best, they swivel round, quite silent and the heat is directed straight. Nothing like sitting in a nice warm heated awning.

PS I might listen to the 'planet savers' when they give up towing with a large petrol or diesel engine (MH included here) with significantly reduced mpg, stop using EHU, and perhaps go back to tents and cycle to a sitesmile

sorry only joking  -about being sorry that is!

We have a small portable Outwell heater which we keep in the van for emergencies and we have very occasionally used it in the awning.  The only time we have actually used it in the awning has been when a group of us have got together in the evening and there are too many to get in the caravan - no more than on one short trip per year - and then we don't always find it necessary to use a heater. (Before anyone either complains or requests to join in, we don't have late into the night get togethers or loud parties - all done and dusted by 10pm). This year over the May BH weekend it was so warm, we sat outside in the open.

The heater I have rotates, but I don't think Outwell produce this particular heater any more.  It can also double as a fan in warm weather.

Having it recovered can help tremendously, buying an offcut of carpet (ours was £50) the carpet shop has fitters that will edge it and cut to size, as Jill said new throws, cushions, curtains etc. will help....enjoy

Heat the awning? Do you generally try walking up the down escalator as well? It's doable but hopelessly inefficient.

I've never tried to walk the wrong way on an escalator CY.

I have however sat nice and warm in an awning quite efficiently.

Off topic but when are you trading in your MH (what's it mpg?) for a bike and tent? And have you sold off your apartment in Spain? Did you used peddle to get there or take a nice 'green' airplane?smile

You see everyone appears to have an elastic sense of energy usage. But some don't criticise other's usage?

But it’s his choice and makes him happy while some types harrumph on the down escalator at the fun he's having as he enjoys the ride,

Unfortunately, Mickey, you opened a can of worms by stirring up awning heating which, it seems, you have no direct interest in.

On the modernising front, you have failed to give us any clues as to what you want so it’s near impossible to help you.

In forum world, those two factors make it appear as if you're just taking the, err, Mickey. Sorry but that's the truth of it.

It's funny but anything with high electricity used inside the caravan is fine, for example no one complains about air con units, hair dryers, all that can be justified but as soon as it's in the awning...

Anyway just going to enter this competition, a tumble dryer for the awning!!!
