Gas hoses last how long?

I have just replaced the orange hose on the BBQ and was wondering what their life should be.  It was looking a touch rough in the orange bit but the black inside seemed very difficult to cut off.  Not that I would dream of taking a risk with a gas hose of course - I just wondered.  Of course my new one had last years date on it.  Thanks in advance.
