Campervan road tax
Hi everyone
I contacted dvla to inform them of the conversion of my vw t5 commercial to a campervan which seemed to fall on deaf ears should it make any difference to the price of the road tax

The VED is based on emissions, so should remain the same. I would guess most DIY converters don't change the type, but a quiet check with your local MOT guy will highlight possible problems with them?
Thing to be aware is speeds: commercial is 50mph on single carriageway, 60 on Dual.

Agree, Kev. It’s nothing to do with emissions.
Our Peugeot based PVC cost, I think, £240 for 12 months. In that region anyway.

Thanks for the info guys

agree with the above...
once converted, your V5 should have either PLGV (private light goods vehicle @ 3500kg GVW or under) or PHGV for vans over 3500kg.
if it has an emmisions value, you can get it removed as the DVLA will use that if its present...
perversely, the 'light' group is more expensive to tax than the heavy group...
yet another left over anomalies from the haulage days, no doubt...

Ive just bought a 2005 Autosleeper Duetto when looking for insurance a question is asked is your motorhome registered as a motorhome? Why is this, when I checked on DVLA it isn't its classed as an LCV is this correct and does it make any difference to the insurance

Was your VW T5 previously registered as a car and therefore has a VED based on that clarification? When most motorhomes are registered by the manufacturers without emissions listed on the certificate or conformity. Maybe the DVLA are reluctant to lose out the money!!!

DVLA have refused to reclassify my Merc Marco Polo although I have written to them to contest their decision. Came across this in my research
