Land Rover Tow Assist
Has anyone out there used the Tow Assist function on a LR Discovery? I ask because when trying to set this up I found the "target" needed to be on the middle front window! Do you need tohave the target on the van when you are towing or just when you set it up?

Can'y help personally, but U Tube has many videos that may help.

Obviously it would save time when setting up if the target was left in position but it only needs to be there when you are manoeuvring on site.

Thanks for the replies.
I must admit I agree with lornalou1 - it seems like a good idea but in reality I have managed to reverse caravans for the past 28 years with out it (including a 100yd reverse down a narrow lane with stone walls either side each time I return from a trip).
It would be better if you could set the system up and then dispense with the "target", but if you need the target in place anytime you want to reverse then it's a non starter for me. I dont want the target in the center of my front window all the time and getting out to get it fixed in the right place each time would be just a pain!

Just an update after a couple of experiments I did.
First, you do need the "target" in place at all times and not just when you configure the tow assist for your van.
Second, given that the target has to be there, I experimented with placing it on the inside of the van in the centre window. It was clearly visible to the human eye when setting up tow assist but the software never found it and locked on to it.
So, if you want to use this feature then you must fix the target to the outside of the van (possibly on the centre window as in my case!) and leave it there. Not really much use as as far as I can see - if anyone at JLR knows otherwise please leave a comment!
Just glad I didn't pay the extra for the all singing and dancing version "Advanced Tow Assist"!
