Caravan crockery

i need to buy crockery for my caravan. I would be grateful if anyone has suggestions regarding the different types. I have had comments for and against melamine and comments recommending tempered glass. Which assume means something like Pyrex. I would appreciate some advice.

    If you like warm plates for your meal melamine is out. It's good weight wise and unbreakable. If you're pockets are deep correlle has a good selection of tempered light crockery BUT beware their mugs are not the same material and breakable. Quite thick and chunky if you prefer delicate.  Following a tip off on here IKEA do plain white light tempered at 50p an item . We have this and find it very good.

    Correlle is circa £60 for a 4 place set ( 16 ) pieces

    I've got a mix of crockery. Corelle bought on offer from eBay and some new melamine bought from M&S , some of the dept stores do better melamine than the camping shops. I take China mugs, a selection acquired over the years. smile

    We probably had the oldest melamine "crockery" in the world.....it dated from 1972!

    We just replaced it with the white ones from Ikea, they are very good.

    We already replaced the mugs with "proper" china  ones, but we still have plastic wine and other glasses.

    We always use proper, good , cutlery, and our pots are from Ikea, good quality so no burnt dinner.

    Not always, I paid £34.50 for a 16 piece set when they had their sale. IKEA didn't do their white plates at that time, wish they did as having seen them I would have bought them. Don't like melamine now that we have the Correlle smile

    I can trump your crockery, KjellNN. I have a couple of plates left from my boat that I had in 1971.

    Corelle for us as well but looking for a couple of small melamine side plates as Corelle ones a bit large.

    Always have glass to drink out of and a couple of Pyrex cups that we've had for ages.

    Carry glasses in the box they came in. Plenty of bubble wrap for stacking pots.

    The IKEA Oftast product is tempered glass. At 50p per unit, dinner plate, side plate, bowl is extremely good value. Just seen a Oftast bowl on Amazon for £2.50, so don't get caught out.

    Now in our 3rd season using them. Dropped them with no issues. Microwave and dishwasher safe.

    There are other more 'expensive' Ikea products of tempered glass if plain, elegant white is not for you.

    We use ceramic coated pans for cooking. £20 a set. Lightweight and just wipe clean with a piece of kitchen roll. Just keep then in their bubble wrap when travelling.

    Thank you for adding the product name KeefySher, I couldn't recall it last night, and since this site is tempremental I didn' dare more away from it to check as all may have been lost 😭😉.

    Out of interest where did you get your pans? 

    Bone China mugs for us. Stored in the upright cup holders with a j cloth wrapping. Our plates are in the crockery rack, tightly, and don't move whilst travelling.

    Wherenext the IKEA side plates are a reasonable size.

    We got ours on a TV shopping channel embarassed

    A quick play online brought up similar on e-bay, eBay item number:271757195501

    Very light, but no good for throwing during arguments!!! tongue-out or keeping kids in order with a bang on the head tongue-out

    I just use normal everyday crockery and travel with it in it's original box.

    Ta, Bakers, but IKEA not very local. We have plenty of caravan accessories centres around and a few Outdoor type of shops but I can't seem to find any. We have a few china ones that are surplus to home requirements and will use these until we find something (or end up near an IKEA)

    We use household crockery carry in the plate rack never had a breakage in over twenty eight years. Famous last years.

    Had melamine plates/dishes etc for 'donkeys years' now - bought from an outdoors type shop but wouldn't dream of drinking tea/coffee out of anything other than china and wine in a 'plastic' glass is unforgivable. Like many, most of our stuff comes straight from Ikea.

    We've moved from an 11 year old melamine set to Correlle.  Really love it.  The plates and bowls are glass, but the matching mugs are stoneware.
