Chatsworth or Teversal

We meet friends from new castle (we are in London) half way up the m1 which is derbyshire. We've tried for 2 years on booking day to get Chatsworth - last year I was successful but other family not, so we booked CCC site tevesal and I cancelled the Chatsworth booking. This year we both managed to book hardstanding pitches... but it's 5 days over BH weekend with kids,in both families and a dog- we both really need an awning.

I've wanted to stay at Chatsworth for years... will they allow a porch awning on a non awning site?

How big are the non awning sites if they won't let us put up a small porch.

Is it as good as people say for dog walking, kids playing on the estate, local towns?

Advice gladly received as we have reversal booked as we can pitch together and out up awnings- but it's a drive to the peak district.

No awnings are allowed on non awning pitches. It's down to fire distance regs rather than pitch size. Sometimes, non awning pitches are the same size as an awning pitch, although some at Chatsworth are smaller.

Just to add for Motorhomes, without another vehicle, pull outs are permitted if fire spacings are maintained.

Have you tried The Firs at Belper, Carsington Water or Castleton as alternatives? We love Chatsworth and go as often as we can. Only 20 miles from home but another world.  Some members don’t like it. It’s quite a dark site surrounded by a wall and lots of trees but only a few minutes walk from Chatsworth House and a 10 minute drive from Bakewell.

I worked near there some years ago so know the area extremely well and less then an hour from home. You can generally get a pitch Monday to Friday but the last few times we’ve been there have always been empty pitches, even at weekends, so worth a phone call to the site.

Glad you like Teversal. The church there is in the same Benefice as Skegby where we go to. Enjoy The Carnarvon. Great pub.
