Fully Serviced Pitches

After having a horrendous last year resulting in not using the caravan for the whole period, things are now better. So we are now ready to book some sites for this year, However, very disappointingly I find there is still an indifferent attitude by the club regarding fully serviced pitches. Some of us, getting on a bit, really rely on minimising the lifting filling emptying water containers. Others find it more appropriate to their needs. How difficult it is to book a site without constantly referencing David's sticky. I would like to know why you can find out whether there is motorhome drainage easier than locating a site with a fully serviced pitch. To me both are essential information.

How difficult is it to refer to David's sticky? There are many other things that the club's IT department need to do before trying to satisfy the needs of a few.

Perhaps there is another way of looking at it Nellie. We 'few' users of serviced pitches contribute about £5 a night extra "for the convenience". We hardly ever use the toilet block built and maintained at great expense so possibly if more people used 'serviced' the club could possibly reduce costs. But the thing I find sad, is that I would never complain about dog walking or children's facilities being included in site descriptions despite never having a need for them. The club IT had no bother including them in the site descriptions because they are considered a selling point.

Why not consider a MH and then you’ll know at a glance if MHSPs are available?laughing

Seriously, struggling with the water issue was a major factor in us changing and it’s so much easier to stop at the MHSP on entering or exiting a site.

David thanks for your response. We are conservationists and so do not use anymore water than needed. I think it is quite possible we use less water with it being on tap rather than filling a whole container to avoid running out. When showering we only run the shower after lathering up to minimise use.

But those were put in the site search facilities when the site was first set up when there were none or very few serviced pitches. I also suspect that there are a lot more members with either or both dogs & children than those that want serviced pitches.

Tinwheeler I just wish I could afford a motorhome. My only experience was when touring California with a Winnebego. Every site had water, electricity and a 'dump' tube. Each site had the facilities in exactly the same position so connecting up was a doddle. However, those days when I was working I had a few bob in my pocket but now having retired not so much so.

Think how much more difficult it would be without DSB's sticky - be glad it's there.

Why not print it out for easy reference until you change to a MH? It doesn’t need to be a new one and needn’t cost more than your cvan and car. smile

PS. You’d save the £5 p/n, or whatever, that you currently pay for a service pitch.

I have printed it off and in the past have complimented David on his great initiative. My real disappointment is to return after a year and find nothing has changed.

As an aside, in days of old before moderation was so key I always enjoyed the fun you and one or two friends always created.

Thankyou. Sadly, fun is now somewhat looked down on as silliness but some of us still bubble away beneath the surface.laughing

It's worth revisiting the sticky from time to time as I have made some small updates based on information and observations made by others.

I'm following all the threads about full serviced pitches, so if anyone reports an update, I should see it and update the main list.  Alternatively, folk can email me.

    Regards

    David

As said on another thread.....Make all pitches 10mtr x 10mtr , eg..Wagtail Country Park etc, fully serviced incl free ethernet hook up, 16 amp allowance then metred, £1.50 per dog pn ...with a flat fee of £45/50pn across the network...simple.

with regard to serviced pitches, we neither want nor would make use of one....large water tanks make us independent of taps/drains for many days....

similarly, we don't need Ethernet, our mobile system is cheap and fast.

super sized pitches are wonderful in France at ACSI prices of around €17, but not if it influences the prices...

a 16a supply is totally overkill for us and don't really need mains at all, so we would only go for a metered supply if (for some reason) there was no alternative....

...additionally, we don't have a dog....

....oh, and £45/£50 a night flat fee would have us elsewhere....simple.

im all in favour of trying to establish a fairer system of pricing, especially when it comes to the electric supply but I don't think this is the way I'd choose...

Out of interest, do you mean they provide more than a 16 amp hook up. As the majority of vans would not be able to take advantage of that. Or is it a misprint. Either way the price is a bit steep if it's all year. They probably do OK at peak for large family groups. Not so much out of season when comparable club prices would be £27 or so for two on a serviced pitch.

As for the Ethernet, it depends what it is connected to at the other end. If only a slow link there would be no real advantage. Also yet another cable to get into the van. I certainly don't have a connector for that on the outside.

£45 - £50 a night? Was it April 1st when you suggested that? Do you get your beds made up and all meals provided for that? Surely that'd be the quickest way of driving folk off club sites? undecided

With the current rate of increase in pitch fees...( couple with 2 children already hedge towards £40pn) ...realistically it will not be not too far in the distant future when £45pn is the norm..I was purely forward thinking as it would take time for pitches to be amended/created..

thats true, but when sharing the same site with caravanners, I wouldn't want to be paying the sort of prices you suggest, and a two tier pricing system for different customers could never work.....unless the 'MH' pitches were totally different ones...?

"unless the pitches were totally different ones"

Well BB. personally..and i repeat personally...i have always held a view from many years ago when MH's first began to appear (truck with a van on back as they were then called) that MH's would be best served with their own area/pitches/service point...

Aside, you yourself will have seen that many continental sites have just that....if fact I am staying at one such site this coming Saturday and our regular overnight stop en route south later in June has a MH area just outside the main site gates..no MH on site !!

Not wishing spark an "Us and Them"...but in the spirit of 'senior service/seniority etc...should not your wording be "As caravanners share same site as motorhomes" ....(Motorhomes have taken over the 'Name' and infrastructure of the 1907 Caravan Club)..

hang on a bit...twas you that said..."But then you are a motorhome user....different ball game.." implying that MHers have a different requirement...

if they do, how could you expect them to be paying the same  £45-50 a night you suggest for those that do have these requirements?

hence my piont that 'those motorhomers' would need a different charging process to attract them...

personally, I wouldn't pay that sort of money if it had a gold plated bathroom, but that's neither here nor there...

the issue is will 'members' in caravans or MHs, find this level of pricing acceptable value....I don't think so...
