Anglia Region 'Question Time'

Thank you to the Anglia Region committee of the CAMC for organising yesterdays regional 'Question Time' in Norwich.

There were some interesting questions and helpful answers during the afternoon session.

    I found the information about Wi-Fi rollout and site refurbishment as well as the discount structure especially for overseas touring helpful but you may have other interests when you attend your regional meeting.

    It was on the Norfolk Centre website and I kept being reminded through Facebook.

    Thank you. Might we all be told about those things ? I am reluctant to undertake a 150 mile round trip to a regional meeting.

    I am still waiting for another Question Time to be held near to MK. Went to one at Luton a few years ago but we were away when they held one at Newport Pagnell, only a couple of miles from where I live!

    The last regional meeting for the south west in November2017 was held in the New Forest  - although few of us here in Cornwall had the faintest idea that the New Forest was a part of the south west ! That meeting would have meant a 300 mile round trip for me.

    I wonder what they talked about - no one ever sent me the minutes or even a short summary of what went on. Are these regional meetings all a waste of time and money?

    I don't know how it works. Do the Local Centres make a request to hold such a meeting or does the Club approach Local Centres? 

    I think they are useful as you can get a bit more background into Club thinking and depending on who the speakers are you can get across points directly to the decision makers. Perhaps they are willing to be more frank when answering questions in a closed meeting than they would be online?Whether that changes anything is of course open to question? They could be used for opinion gathering by the Club. As to waste of money I am not sure how much they cost. Obviously the venue is likely to be the biggest cost. The one I went to refreshments were fairly minimal, eg tea and biscuits which in itself might discourage people travelling long distances. They are usually held in hotels or conference centres which usually have alternative catering arrangements.

    They had a Meet the Club meeting in Scotland a few years ago. It was well attended and a number of controversial issues were raised.  That was it. No feedback, a brief mention on the Club magazine, no head office comments, nothing changed. There was free coffee and biscuits and the venue was only 25 minutes from home. So it wasn't a completely wasted afternoon

    Not been another one in our area to my knowledge.

    The Regional Committees, who organise the Question Times'  are non Centre based and represent all CAMC members.  It was mentioned on Saturday that the Anglia Region has 3 non Centre member vacancies and to date there have been no takers.

    I believe having the meetings is a dilemma for the CAMC as they are always very poorly attended in comparison to the membership numbers which suggests to me that people are more than happy and don't have questions or can't be bothered to join groups or attend meetings.

    It does not help that they are not kept in the public gaze ,Facebook is not the way a large amount of the population get their information ,it seems it is a modern day attitude to anything "use facebook"

    I've already said that I didn't know it was an event and others have indicated that the distance would be too far, so a couple of proposals:  The club could publicise these events by having drop advertising boxes on CT just for club events.  Alternatively instead of attending the meeting in person we could, if possible, Skype into it.

    I've been to three since their introduction, usually when I have something to complain about or want a better insight into something. I too think they are poorly attended, in fact if the stalwarts of centre membership didn't go there would be nobody there! It is usual for the venues to move around the regions from year to year. I usually get an email advising the date and venue in my region. Perhaps other regions do it differently? I have been away the past two years but in any case if it was in a far corner of the region and I had nothing on my mind I wouldn't go anyway.

    They can't even give you advance warning of "essential maintenance" of the website on here so what chance of advance notice of a meeting?

    But advance notice was given on here two weeks before the event!
