If you're a member of C&CC their Windermere site ( at Staveley between Windermere and Kendal) is a very nice site. Walks direct from site, village pubs nearby and, I seem to remember, a little bar/restaurant on site. Worth a look. smile

The C&CC site at Keswick is right on the lake and just a few minutes walk into town.

Others on here may suggest Borrowdale CAMC site but that is in a wood at the other end of the lake and a tricky drive into Keswick.

Depends where in the Lakes you want to be. The C&CC seem to have the best central sites without trees.....Derwentwater & Keswick, and Braithwaite Fold at Bowness as well as Windermere as Moulesy said. There are a few CLs too but most are round the edge of the LD.

Troutbeck Head comes to mind, great views over the northern fells. However it is closed till mid August for toilet upgrades and to get rid of the grass pitches.

Keswick C&CC and Troutbeck Head would be my recommendations both very open easy to get to and have great views. Keswick is very handy for walking to the town where there is plenty to do

Another vote for Keswick camping and caravan club site.  Great location, open site with lovely views of the hills and the lake.

They are just finishing some fully serviced pitches too, if that is your thing.

The big bonus is being able to walk into Keswick with its abundance of shops, cafes and pubs.  Plus a largish Co-op and a Booths supermarket for the essentials.

So many good walks direct from the site too, Cat Bells, Latrigg,  Skiddaw.  Also worth a visit is Lingholm estate (Beatrix Potter connections) with its cute alpacas and cafe.

Club doesn't serve the Lakes well so we use either Castlerigg Farm or Castlerigg Hall - both of which are just outside of Keswick and walkable for the relatively able but it is a drag coming back!

Small site at Hawkshead, not CAMC but out in the open, good bus services to Coniston and Windermere etc.

Dockray Meadow is a club site more in the open.

The Old Post Office at Holmrook has reviews and photos which are worth looking at.
