Usually if we were travelling down to our area in the SW Somerset/Dorset we'd take the A34 Oxford route via Newbury and then head along the A303 till we could drop downwards to our destination, for Lytchett this would probably mean the Salisbury/Blandford route. This avoids congestion through the Southampton area etc. However if you prefer motorways your route would get you there. Nice spot to stay, hope you enjoy your visit.

I am puzzled by the reference to the A32, did you mean A34? If I was doing that route I think I would go A34/M3/M27 and then continue on the A31 and drop down to the site via the A350. As Brue says my route can be quite busy but it's mainly dual carriageway/motorway. It might well depend on actual day of travel and time. I think the route via Salisbury and Blandford might not be as busy but on a good day my route I suspect will be quicker. Trouble is who decides when it's going to be a good day!!!!

Avoid Salisbury at all costs on ordinary days, let alone currently.
After you go around Wimbourne you'll come to a big wall on the left side of the road, at gateways there are animal statues on pillars, think it's the lions gate you want.

At the height of Summer/Easter the A31 can be very slow moving through the New Forest, it's a difficult call. I know Salisbury can be bad too. Much depends on the day and time. Anyway, that goes for a lot of places down our way but good when you get there.

We are off to Dorset later this week, will be using DK's route from North Oxon, hoping this time of year it won't be too busy.
