A49 Northbound
In 3 weeks time I will be taking the caravan from Hereford northbound on the A49 to M56 then joining the M6 Northbound. Does anyone know of a good place to stop for a break North of Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury will take me just over 2 hours approx.

Many thanks for your thoughts, I should have made it clear that I'm looking for a break stop of about 45mins, for myself and our 2 dogs to have a stretch on their leads. I'll be heading onto the M6 northbond from the M56 so can have a longer stop at a service station. we are spending the night near Carlisle.

Steve, there's a cafe used by lorry drivers at the junction of the A49 and the A41 at Prees Heath, just short of Whitchurch, the Midway Truck Stop. If lorries can get in so can caravans.

Many thanks for everyones help, thats given me plenty to think about, one thing for sure i now have lots of info before setting off. My second question is -- does anyone know what the Englethwaite Hall caravan club site is like please. I find its odd that all the Grass and awning pitches are full and the hard standing pitches are free. Any idea's before I book for 3 days.

Grass pitches will probably have been taken out the equation due to the wet weather so it's easier for the club just to show them as full.
I know quite a few members who have stayed there and think it's great. I'm sure they'll be able to give you more detailed info.

They probably don't even open the grass pitches till after Easter, as it's always wet in Cumbria at this time of year. We like the site, nice and quiet and a good dog walk straight off the site.

Englethwaite Hall is a quiet site, no toilet block. We've been a couple of times and liked it. One part of the site is quite open whilst the other is in trees. The site is easily accessible from the M6 and Hadrian's wall is nearby with some good walks along sections of the wall. The last time we were there getting into Carlisle was problematic owing to extensive roadworks, I've no idea if they're completed now. There's a supermarket just off the junction for Carlisle, if memory serves it's Tesco.
