Easter rip off

Was thinking of staying at Godrevy Park Cornwall during the Easter holidays but the club are charging top whack for the full two weeks, 29.00 for a grass pitch, I can stay at Gwithian farm on a hard standing for 21.00, site is just up the road and a little closer to the beach.

Another couple of hundred quid the club can afford to chuck, take it or leave it

On the other hand, we've just booked 5 nights at Exebridge Lakeside for a touch under £120.

In the same area we could have gone to Waterrow (£164) or Exe Valley (£133) - both very good sites which we've used in the past, but more expensive for us than the club site.

Always pays to shop around - you pays your money and you makes your choice! smile

Only if your 14 days start on the day before Good Friday. I assumed your two weeks meant the week before and after Easter weekend, school holidays around here.

Our 5 nights - Tuesday to Sunday work out at £118.70 compared to the other sites I quoted. smile

Godrevy has always been a pricey site but very popular nevertheless. The grass pitches are, of course, on fast draining sandy soil.

Perhaps JK can give us an insight as to whether running costs are high or if the club simply charges that much because it can.

I don't see the reason, apart from the Easter weekend I bet all the club sites in Cornwall will be less than half empty.

Which is why I’m wondering if JK can throw any light on the situation.

Not when we were there in September 2015 they weren't!

More like waterlogged mud.  Grass ruined by awning groundsheets too.

It was even worse in October. Glad the Club has introduced some non awning pitches on the site. I might change my booking when I can find out where they are located on the site.

You do realise you don't have to go I assume

If it's too expensive or rather not giving you what you want for what you're prepared to pay then don't - simples

but actually the same principle applies, if you think Easter eggs are a rip off then don't but any and buy a 'normal' choccie bar instead.

But of course don't forget to go onto the Cadbury's (or whoever) website and tell themsmile

    Low ground?

It looked all much the same, though the warden was advising MHs to avoid a certain area.

We had a pitch close to the toilet block.

This Easter we are staying reasonably close to home and visiting some areas we have not spent much time in before.

Easter is not a peak period in Scotland with the other club, so lower prices and age discount available.  Good saving for us compared to CAMC sites.

    We were pleasantly surprised.

We had been there back in about 2000, in August, it was nice and dry then, but, no, we would not use it again.

Some reason that grass should be cheaper than hard standing, and indeed it is with C&CC) but I always thing that grass awning pitches take more in maintenance and each year I see numerous ones with dead grass, ruts, mud and pitches that I would never want in that state.

It slopes uphill from the road with the facility block in the middle and the higher ground beyond. The low bit along the hedge next to the road obviously gets soggier than the higher ground.

If you mean Dunnet Bay then you’ll find Godrevy very similar, Easy.

We use Godrevy almost every year without problems.

It must be a very gentle slope.  We were on the far side of the toilet block, so not near the road,  it was extremely soggy with plenty of bare mud in many areas.

Gentle in parts, steep in others.

As it was nearly three years ago, you may not fully remember, KJ.

I remember  it well, we were on pitch 106.

I went for a long walk on the dunes, some of the slopes there were steep, but the site itself was relatively flat.

We obviously have different ideas  as to what qualifies as steep!

This is pointless so I’ll let you have the last word. It’s obviously not the same site I’ve been going to for years and had a part seasonal on at one time. undecided
