13 pin genuine towing wiring harness PDC

Hi All, I have just received my 13 pin genuine KIA dedicated wiring harness (3U621ADE00CP) and supplemental kit for the caravan fridge (55621ADE00). Purchased from Jennings Motor Group, for my Kia Sportage 2014 KX-4.

I am happy fitting these harnesses, except for wiring so the rear parking sensors will switch off automatically when the caravan is connected (I know that I can turn both front and rears off using the parking sensors disabling button).

The instruction shows the use of the white/red wire which comes from the trailer module connector. This needs to be connected to two wires black and blue from the Cobra PDC box (where ever that is located).

I have attached the instruction sheet.

If anybody can help point me in the right direction, that would be great.

Cheers

Derek

I'm sorry I can't and you have my respect for knowing even where to start with the wiring.

But you've raised an interesting question for me. We had our electrics fitted by Kia (before the car got to the dealer) and as we have a motor mover we reverse to with in few feet of the van (camera very useful) and then let the mover do the rest and unhitch use the mover at the other end, so I have just realised that we have never actually reversed the van with the car so I have no idea if the camera actually switches off or not! I can't wait for the next time we go away for a trip to test it.

Would it matter if it didn't though? I would be looking out of the window rather than at the camera display?

DS, it's probable the ECU needs re-programming to enable it to recognise when a trailer is attached and alter its settings accordingly.

I suggest you check with a Kia dealer.

Corners, your ECU should already have been tweaked, if necessary, seeing your electrics were fitted by/for Kia.

Del Sandy, why would you want to turn the sensors off automaticaly. surely its easier just to press a button than mess with the wiring. like tinwheeler states if you have a motormover then you've no need for the sensors as no need to reverse. the pdc unit will probs be found behind one the side panels in the rear of car as this controls the sensors and the beeps you hear. worth a look.

"like tinwheeler states if you have a motormover then you've no need for the sensors as no need to reverse"

    Nope, not me.

If the wiring kit is intended to disable the reversing sensors, I would think it’s best to fully fit it as intended rather than leave the reversing sensors operative.

Hi Derek, did you ever figure this out? Just like your whether or not I need this I want the lot fully wired as it should be.

I have a 2017 Kia Optima estate and can't find the cobra box.

    Thanks
