Having spent new year at Abbey Wood for the last couple of years we decided to go to Edinburgh next new year..... cannot find any sites with availability :-( Any suggestions most welcome! We need electric hook up, reasonable site facilities (toilet/shower block) and dog friendly.

I have just had a look at availability for Edinburgh Site, and unsurprisingly, the only dates fully booked are 30th/31st December, but this is the biggest holiday date in Scotland. I we were in your position, I would book the dates you want around those dates, and wait for a cancellation, checking with the Wardens through the year. You might be able to book an alternative somewhere else in the meantime, but it's surprising just how cancellations become available at a later date. Sadly, Yellowcraig, just a short train ride away closes in early November, as this would have been great for your dog as well. I suspect the New Years Eve pitches were quickly booked on Frenzy Day, very popular city venue. You might be able to find a nice CL not too far away?

Remember also you need to buy advance tickets for the celebrations, the events are all ticket only.

Thanks for the replies. I should have clarified when i wrote 'any site' I didn't mean just CMC sites, I am not wedded to their sites and cannot find anything CL, Commercial or otherwise with availability! I might try risking a cancellation coming up, it is a shame the Club system doesn't have a 'waiting list' set up, must be do-able with modern technology?

I know Edinburgh and surroundings well, and aware of the ticketing having visited the City for over 50 years (my sister lived in the City for over 30 years before retiring to the Highlands). In pre-caravanning days with the previous SWMBO often stayed around North Berwick/Dunbar and recall walking the dogs on the beach past the Yellowcraigs site. The Edinburgh club site is also fine for dogs, great walk along the foreshore to Cramond Village and island.

Why not give the Edinburgh site a ring to see if there is a waiting list, we have done this on another club site for New Year and got a pitch nearer the time.

Have you looked at sites in the Stirling area or is your heart set on Edinburgh?

I've just booked a service pitch over the Easter holidays and there appears to be plenty of pitches.

Anyway two interesting points, one you can book a grass or hard standing pitch and earliest arrival time is 9am.

You will find that the majority of sites on the network that are open over Xmas/New year that have or are near to celebrations will be showing "full"over that period,as they will be holding them until "tickets"for on site activities are all sold and will the release the remainderwink

We were at Edinburgh CC site this year from 28-30th December we did want to stay on until the 2nd of Jan but the site was full. Interesting to note that we didnt book until November and originally we could only get 2 nights but managed to get a cancellation for the 3rd night so it is worth keeping an eye on the availability
