Hi all

Looking for a CL for June this year in the Woolacombe, North Devon area.   I'm sure I saw a recent posting where someone either owned or had been to one and it had a good recommendation but despite using the search facilitiy I can't seem to find the thread.

Therefore, does anyone have any recommendations for this area, would like to be near to the coast and also any cycling routes as we usually take our bikes.

Alternatively, does anyone have any experience of the CMC sites in that area.   I notice the Ilfracombe one doesn't have toilets, which doesn't bother us.    We only need hook up as use our van facilities.

Thanks in advance for any help.

We used Willingcot Club site last September.  Nice site but quite exposed to the wind.  Road to it narrow in places, but only a short stretch.

Have also used the AS just along the road from it.....much longer stretch of narrow road to it,but good facilities and views.  Again quite exposed .

Hi Moonstone, my wife and I have a CL in North Devon we are situated five miles from Combe Martin on the edge of Exmoor National Park. We are approx half an hours drive from Woolacombe.

We are an adults only site and we do not accept dogs. Our hardstanding pitches are serviced with individual tap and grey water drain and we have a toilet but no shower, £14 a night.

    Thanks for reading

The roads around Willingcott are fairly typical in that area and anywhere on that north coast is likely to be exposed to the elements.

This a fair bit further west in Cornwall but still on that north coast.

We've stayed at the Ilfracombe club site, it's not bad, high up and a bit open to the elements, excellent value, steepish walk down busy lane to a pub and shop.

Here's a CL near the Tarka Trail if you like cycling.

We've stopped there a couple times and would use it again if in the area. Largish field adjacent which provides a decent dog walk, if required.

Nicola, is this the way forward now following the Matchmaker Trial? Not heard how it went, as it was originally open to the first 10 applicants. What's the situation?

    Hi Nellie

As it was tried in the run up to Christmas and then Christmas/New Year break it hasn't actually been followed up on yet regarding moving forward or not with it....we are all just getting back into our stride.  I'm sure something will be posted on here before too long.smile

Hallsdown Farm is definitely worth visiting, everything a CL should be.

Would love to visit there but they don't allow dogs.....which will, of course, appeal to others no doubt.

Moonstone, if you find a place stay try a visit to NT Arlington Court, it's a lovely old place with a very good carriage museum.

    See Arlington Court

    Will second this.

Stayed here a few months ago. Seek out the cl and read my site report.

Although not Woolacombe the location is good being central for Exemoor and the coastal are. I'm not sure I would like to ride a bike along some of the narrow lanes though.

Thanks all - much appreciated.   I'd already seen The Barton and it looks nice, so a consideration.   Might do a bit more research before booking.

    Any more suggestions still welcome.

We have been to Hallsdown Farm and say it is among the best CL sites we have enjoyed.  However, it is remote and the roads are not easy.  That is the reality of North Devon.

In June I would stop at http://www.woolacombe-sands.co.uk/  closest caravan park to Woolacombe, better value than club sites out of high season and great views, a ten min stroll along the footpath down to the beach.

High season I would stay at https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/certificated-locations/england/devon/woolacombe/spreacombe-lodge-farm/

We stayed at North Morte Farm and recommend it.  Not a CL but good location with sea views, short stroll to village and Woolacombe.

     Hi all

Thanks for the suggestions, some look really lovely - been spoilt for choice.   However, we've decided to choose The Barton as the attraction of the nearby Tarka Trail appeals to our interests.

Look out Devon, here we come in June.

We stayed at Damage Barton last April. Stunning views. Lovely walks. Beautiful new shower block completed not long before we stayed there. There were 2 shower blocks on site the other was a little 'tired' but both were kept very clean.

Some one said earlier that the site being exposed can get windy. So presumably, "Brace yourself"

I've got The Barton on my list so I'm guessing Harryb is right as the Damage Barton area can be very windy. All ok then? wink

Shame you need hookup Moonstone- if you didn’t there is a nice quiet site at Welcombe. Not far from Bude. Near the sea and lovely walks.
