Need some advice. Want to buy a motorhome _£20000 maximum and 3 or 4 berth. Where is the best place(in your opinion!) to buy?  What do i look for? and what motorhomes to avoid? Is damp a major issue?  Where do i look?  E bay , Gumtree, Auto trader, Garages or individuals?

Some smaller non-mainstream dealers specialise in second hand MHs and might have something to suit.

Have a look at the MMM (Motorhome Monthly Magazine) they have regular buyer features on older motorhomes. The latest issue is available online for free viewing.

Visit a reputable dealer and have a good look in the vans you like, you'll soon start to see which ones are better than others. Vans with a "smell" are to be avoided. Take your time.

Go to one of the many motorhome shows,look around car park as many people place sale boards on their vehicles (not strictly allowed). Hang around the many trade stands as people will be discussing trade in values for their vans and most are prepared to do a deal if they can get a better offer. Talk to people as many will know of vans for sale. If you get time wander around the camping area ,as many people will again be advertising vans for sale. 

Dont buy any van without getting a full damp check of your own,do not rely on the vendors supplying certificates . Look at lots  of vans and get a good feel of what you require . Enjoy the buying experience and take your time.

You will get more for your money buying privately but it is very much a case of buyer beware.
