Resurrection of Old Discussions
Has anybody managed to work out why old or even very old discussions suddenly reappear and because most contributors don't notice the original date new but often no longer relevant comments are made because of the time lag.
My own theory is that a new discussion has been started with the same title and the system cannot differentiate between the two and thus the problems start. I have tried to test this by searching to find duplicates even using different search engines but to no avail.
I know it's only another minor issue but I am sure some of you find it just as frustrating as me.

Don’t suggest complicating matters further, LL. The system's barely coping now. The date's no big deal really.

They’re a bit like old b&w films. I wonder if we'll see a rerun of Sunday Departures.....

I've just been watching the WW11 film 'Went the Day well' - and no it didn't - just like these Forums
Dated - Thursday 30th November.

When I have discussed this with Rowena she has said that it's threads by the same name that can resurrect old threads. Perhaps the same is true of Brue's suggestion regarding liking an old discussion. The strange thing is, and one of the reason people might start posting in an old thread, is that most threads over about two years old have had all the original posts except the one made by the original poster Deleted User so it can easily look like a new post if you don't notice the date.

I'm wondering which breed of horse will be best for pulling my caravan. And do readers please have any recommendations for the best dealers to supply oats? I understand that different varieties of this useful cereal cause our equine friends to achieve various distances in terms of miles per peck, and would be glad to learn more.

Dear Tinker of Tunbridge Wells, I've found that my old bullock is a far better tugger with plenty of low down torque although at the expense of outright pace.

Why indeed Steve it would have made much more sense. The same is true of the Story Section as those posted before the latest edition of the forum are a complete mess with photographs all over the place. They Deleted User all the old site reviews so why not the old threads and stories. I do keep raising this issue but I suspect it's considered not important enough to allocate the IT time to do it?

If they are resurrected by new posts with the same title where does the newly started thread go? I always go in via latest activity and there are never 2 threads with the same title unless we are having the delay issues. I also don't check the date of the OP if it appears in latest discussions as that has date and day of post. So I'm not sure that it is explained away so easily 😉.
Still we will soon be celebrating a birthday, maybe our present will be all issues resolved 😂😂😭😭😤😤. The men in white coats are walking towards me as I type.......

i guess no one will know if an 'old' post will be resurrected until a new one with exactly the same name is created?
if its this that really does cause a problem, there is no defense just by deleting old posts....
whats needed is a check at the point any new thread is started which issues a message along the lines of...'there is already a thread with this name, would you like to change your new name or add your post to the existing thread'.
this is how most systems avoid duplicates and the associated issues.
a bridge too far for CT....

Dear Sir,
Are you suggesting that the answer to my question may be a load of old bull?Yours respectfully, etc

It does happen and the threads usually appear together, the newer one is not overwritten by the original. The problem is that people start responding to both threads before they realise one is five years old. However it is a fairly rare occurrence and I think in the scheme of things not a big issue. It would be nice for everything to work completely seamlessly but unfortunately it doesn't and I have not heard anything about any major changes about to happen to the forum. That doesn't mean that it won't happen at some stage in the future but I have learnt not to count chickens!!!
