Crack in motorhome bumper

Has anyone repaired a plastic rear bumper? If so how did you do it and what products did you use.

    My local body shop has a gizmo that heats up what looks like a staple, this is then melted into the back of the bumper bridging the crack. When cooled, the legs are trimmed off & then painted as normal. Not really a job for DIY
