Burrs electricity supply
Just got back from a long weekend at Burrs Country Park.
We had 4 power-cuts during the stay. It was the sites main breaker that was tripping. The warden said it was because everyone had their heating on! This is an all year round site and heating will be used. The 16A supply at the bollard wasn't tripping, but the combined load for the site was tripping the main site breaker. The site has been increased in capacity recently, and the site was fairly full. Perhaps this is part of the problem as I've never had it happen when staying there on cold days in previous winters,
Whatever the cause of the problem it need to be sorted, and soon.

Yep......metered supplies should sort it.......

It could be two issues, firstly it might be main rcb board and the fuses do not have a high enough amperage and keep overloading or their is a fault inline. Secondly, the new pitches are not balanced out on the three phase system meaning one phase is overloaded for instance..

Just wait until half of the cars on site are all being recharged at the same time, along with everyone trying to stay warm

Bring back gas lights, I say, they provided heat as well as light. Now, where did I put those gas mantles?

So did I, Easy. If only the mantles wouldn’t fall out every time the van was moved.

I have some mantles for a Tilley lamp that we used in our 1962 Lamont frame tent but could never part with them in case I then forgot the sound of my Dad pumping to build the pressure and the the amazing light and sound we then enjoyed.
Mum and Dad have gone but the tent was used by me and my family till we moved to a van in 1990.

First caravan 1971 9ft 6in Bluebird Eurocamper 4 berth with one gas light, no electric and no heating other than gas light. Even in cold weather the heat from the gas light was enough to warm the caravan! Still have two gas mantels in spares box.

I am always astonished that the 'silk' mantles in my camping-gaz lamp survive for years ....they seem so brittle after you have set light to them! I seem to recall from childhood that the ceramic mantles failed far more frequently.

Forgot to say we used to rally on a 30 pitch commercial site in Winter with a 10 amp pitch supply and you could guarantee that the main supply would trip long before all 30 outfits arrived. On and off like yoyo. Even blew the main fuses one year and North West Electricity had to come out on Saturday morning. We eventually all learned to only use gas heating but then we were not paying CAMC prices!

Thanks for the info. I’m going to see if we can fit in a sneaky weekend at Burrs, the sight and sound of everyone running arround like headless chickens just because their leccy has gone off for 30 minutes is priceless, well worth the cost of admission.

..........and I've just booked on here at the end of the month.
Just had the same experience at Cirencester two weeks ago. The power kept cutting over night and just affected a few pitches not the whole site. I never found out what caused it.

Yeah, that happens. Everyone ventures out of their units and actually start talking to one another. Strangely comical
When asked... has you're power gone off? I like to say no, its still on (even though mine has gone off too, obviously) great fun

I think I've still got my camping gaz lamp from my camping days sculling around in the garage somewhere.

Even if it is 6 ampere per bollard outlet, if that multiplied by the number of bollard outlets is more than the supply it will still trip out.
