I went to the Dark Side

Sold caravan and bought camper van cool

She is a classic VW25 called Martha and I am in love with her! Power steering, new awning, bike rack and storage in every nook and cranny! 60k miles on the clock and after my VW specialist garage man checked her over and tuned her up etc, reckons I bought a 'good one there'.

She is so much more me than the caravan and much more manageable - my friends reckon that all that's missing is the surf board on the roof laughing. Now I can think seriously about the N500 in Scotland!

BTW caravan was rehomed to a lovely couple.

We swapped to the dark side six weeks ago as well. Quick audit at Henley, Four Oaks the other day showed 15 caravans to 11 MotorHomes, so we aren't outnumbering the traditionalists yet.

Depends on the site Cy. I would expect that site to particularly appeal to motorhomers due to the nearness of the town itself.

I love it, lucky you. Does it have 'facilities' for being completely self contained?

I can' see why you call it the dark side. It' that you choose the LV that suits you personally. We've only ever been motorhomer's, still with our first purchase 😆.

She has a portapotty thingy in a lower cupboard. No shower but very large water tank under the seat, so strip washes will prevail and solar showers in warmer times.

Little 2 ring gas hob and grill - I never really liked the full size gas cooker in my caravan as I am more of a "put it in a saucepan and heat it up" type of a girl and the four rings and full size oven seemed a bit of a waste of space for me.

Some pics of the interior taken by the former owners, a lovely helpful couple that went out of their way to make sure I knew how everything worked. We are going to keep in touch as they'd like to see what Martha gets up to next!

Oh and the other thing I love is being up high when I drive! I had a chance to be a passenger in a very expensive motorhome a couple of month ago and I loved the elevated view through the windscreen and Martha provides a great view too.

Looks great Rosie.  My eldest daughter and son-in-law have a old Renault campervan which they are doing up a bit at a time.  The have just done the N. Scotland coastal 500 route and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Glad you are happy with the change.  If I see it on site somewhere I'll offer you a run to the shops/pub/town/sights to save you having to pack everything away to move.

Absolutely AGM.  Ruth and Wayne like to 'wild camp' in their campervan where they can and thoroughly enjoy it.  On the other hand, I enjoy all the mod cons.  The important thing is that, whatever 'route you take', you enjoy what you do.  We started as tenters in a small ridge tent we didn't even have a table or chairs, let alone EHU.  I think we all change over time (and get older), but still can't see me going down the Motorhome route.  At present, it just doesn't seem to suit what we do.
