Getting Ready for winter

Hi, we brought our first Motorhome in the spring and have had an amazing 6 months.  As this is our first winter we would really love any advice on what we should do to keep our Motorhome good through the winter.  We park it on the road, it has a solar panel.  We plan to use it as much as possible but it will only be at weekends.  Thanks everyone who offers advice.

Drain every drop of water from it but if you use it regularly every few days you shouldn’t need to do anything else. We don’t.

Lorraine, you're doing all the right things....have it close by and getting out there using it....

i cant offer any specific usage advice, you'll know how ypu use ypur van better than me, however one tip specifically for winter...

depending, perhaps, on which part of the country youre in, you may be susceptible to snap cold frosts and, if so, you may want to drain your water system down if you deem it necessary.

good luck and dont be afraid to ask for more info should you require it.

    edit....Ah, 'snap' TWkiss

It's pointless repeating what has already been said if you are idle like me but have a look at this link for further reassurance:

Motorhome Matters is a free forum but you may have to register first.

That link also mentions the floe system which might be worth it if you are draining the system regularly.

For weekends away, we don't refill the water system. We use campsites with facilities including electric hook up [chosen in locations where the weather forecast says it'll be warmer there] and carry water in a 5l container plus a toilet spray. Whatever approach you take, you need to think about the extent to which your motorhome is 'winterised'. It is not unknown for water systems to freeze up on site whilst you are snuggly warm under the duvet. Some people leave their waste tank open on site to drain the water into a suitably placed bucket [no chance of the waste water freezing in the van]. If you are using gas for heating, make sure you have some!

Glad you've enjoyed to first 6 months. There is something magical about eating hot sandwiches and drinking tea inside the van whilst watching the frost thaw outside.
