Hitchlock advice!
Hi all,
Ive recently just made the jump from motorhome and have purchased my first caravan: Swift lifestyle 4FB.
Can anyone recommend a good hitchlock for my outfit?
Thank you!

I use both the Al-ko hitch lock and the Al-ko wheel axle lock. I bit pricey but they seem to do what it says on the tin. Just remember to put the wheel axle lock on as soon as you arrive on site before you put the steadies down.

My advice re hitch locks is to look at designs that stop the h/lock being prised off upwards, ie make sure it has a strong underplate. I speak from experience.
PS Sorry for the late response.

Hi, I have had one of the Alko hitchlocks in the past, but found them to look very flimsy. I doubt if it wouldn't take very much to prise it off using a large bar.
With my older caravan I purchased a "Bulldog" hithchlock which covered most of the hitch itself and was really well made.
Now we have a newer caravan I have purchased a "Maypole Sold Secure" Hitchlock. This is VERY solidly made and is easy to fit. Would recommend.
It's down to personal choice but a;ways go for one which has the "Sold Secure" mark on it. Don't forget to tell your insurance as this will go towards any discount they may give.
I always keep my hitch covered as this keeps prying eyes off which type of hitchlock you have.
Good Luck

It is a shame security is required, and if they want it they will have it brigade, but no device equals no insurance which is probably why with all the security added to your unit you might get 15%off damed cheek if you ask me.😕

Whatever you buy just make sure it is Thatcham and or Sold Secure approved.

The CC insurance, although giving a discount for the Alko wheel lock, did not give any more for the hitch lock. So although we always fit it, I removed it from the list of devices used. At least it gives me the option of not fitting it and still complying with the insurance.
