Awareness and safety on autoroutes.
My wife and I have noted that when being overtaken on an autoroute, many vehicles cut in too soon after passing and can cause you to brake to preserve your distance. Many of these vehicles we noted are British registered and we wondered if the right hand drive configuration has something to do with this, mostly this seems to be solo vehicles but on at least two occasions we have had the same thing with cars and caravans causing us not only to brake but to actually swerve on to the hard shoulder to avoid a collision. The other driver seems to be completely oblivious to this and unaware of the near miss. Mirrors are a vital part when overtaking, it seems though there are those who don't use them. Autoroutes with very little traffic are a dream to drive on but there is always a need to be aware of everything around you. My photo shows what happens when things go wrong, a driver trapped in his cab and at least six other vehicles involved on the A7 autoroute near Montellimar this August. Everyone take care.
