Green Flag/Mayday woes.

I have never had such shoddy service from a recovery service.

over two hours wait for a jump start....."We have no-one available,  we have someone who comes on shift in an hour and he's 10 minutes away"???????

Outright porkies told by the agents of Mayday.

Unacceptable treatment by Mayday phone-answerer

"Can we book an appointment to come to you in !-2 HOURS, as we are busy".....

Make a formal complaint E/naut, then don't renew. It's the only way to stop bad service. Good luck.

I believe that individual complaints are not taken very seriously,..an offer of compensation only assuages the complainant.

Highlighting the cases to Mayday's core customers will hopefully give them pause for thought.

There are many who have praised the efficiency of Mayday on these threads, the post may alert some but not help your grievancesfrown

I have no doubt that Mayday are very efficient at times, I have experienced it myself, but this does not in any way excuse multiple cases of bad service, which is unacceptable in the competitive field of Breakdown insurance, and certainly not in one that The Caravan Club gives its endorsement to.

It is not my intention to "help my grievances",..but to inform current and potential members of the scheme of unacceptable practices that they may experience when requiring The Caravan Club's Mayday service.

I will, of course, be considering alternatives when renewal time comes around.

The breakdown / recovery company you are dealing with is not MayDay or the Caravan Club - it is Green Flag. And it is surely well known that Green Flag have relatively few technicians of their own, they simply pass on most distress calls to a local garage who send out their man and their van. He may be busy, and if so he will prioritise breakdowns on the hard shoulder of a motorway ahead of flat batteries at home.

Because it's a simple contracted out service of that sort Green Flag is cheap - I only pay £47 a year - the Club inflates the price and charges more if you insure through them, but mostly you still just get the man with a van from the local garage, and there may only be one of him.

The RAC has 2000 patrol vans on the road. Green Flag has only 200 of it's own. That's why it's cheap.

    hi all

I had to use green flag last year while on holiday in Brixham, I have to say it was brilliant the guy arrived the time they said . and he was very good . as my Mercedes e class had a misfire it was part of the engine computer. which he sorted out there and then and told me how to fix again if it went again. they saved me a few hundred pounds so I cant  praise them enough. Thank you green flag

It is The Caravan Club's Mayday Service that I subscribe to.

They are the originators of the scheme, and as such, are responsible for any subsequent agents that they employ to provide the service.

Are we told at the point of sale that we are at the mercy of a small organisation and may have to wait 2-3 hours until this small fleet of agent have dealt with higher priority call-outs?

    I wasn't.

Which is exactly what you paid for dave.

Just as a matter of interest,...Were you told that there was no mechanic on shift for and hour and that it would take them only another ten minutes to get there, which then turned out to be 2 hours?

Were you told on another occasion that you were being contacted to arrange an appointment for one and a half to two hours hence?

I don't think you were, thank goodness,....and what would have been your reaction if you had have been?....

At least you get a nice crisp tenner if they are longer than an hour IIRC.

I have had nothing but good service from Green flag /Mayday,but like any breakdown service they are subject to how busy they are,    reports of long waits from all of the breakdown companies have been posted on here at some time or other
