Cannot visit Club website when on a Club site

This is our third site on this trip, we were at Tewkesbury which has gold wifi, then at Willingcot which is bronze, and now Trewethett Farm which is also bronze.

We  have not purchased time via Air Angel, we have our 3 mifi with us, but like to use the (free) club wifi to visit the website, make bookings and look at CT, rather than using our paid for 3 data.

At Tewkesbury we had no problems, but at Willingcot and now here at Trewethett, we cannot visit the Club website at all.  We thought maybe the wifi was too poor, but OH has been over to reception and tried it with the same result, she  could not visit the website.

We have a decent signal, we can see the aerial from our pitch, we get the connection page, but then no further.  Apparently the only thing we can do is buy time.

We have tried on 2 laptops, 2 i pads and my phone, with the same result.

Warden has done what he could (checked we were doing it correctly) but to no avail, so has said we need to ring Air Angel.  It is an 0333 number..............is that free?  We are on PAYG phones.

Warden reckons nothing has changed in the system, nobody else has complained of the same problem.

Can anyone shed any light on where we are going wrong?

We have 6 or 7 sites to go on this trip, so would be good to get it working again!

KjellNN found this online easier to paste it all 😉 we've only used a couple of club sites this year, Southport and Ferry Meadows, seem to recall something similar at one of them but can't remember details now, sorry. Hope the following helps.

    Standard landline rate numbers

    Number type:
    0330 number
    Usage:
    Non-geographic numbering
    Call costs:
    Normal landline rate
    Introduced:
    March 2007
    Similar numbers:
    All other 03 numbers
    What are 0330 numbers?
An 0330 number is a special type of landline-rate phone number used by businesses and various other organisations.

Unlike traditional landline phone numbers, 0330 numbers are not linked with specific geographic locations. However, the cost to call an 0330 number within the UK is always the same as calling a normal home or business landline.

    0330 number call costs
A call to an 0330 number costs the same as a call to a normal home or business landline.

All numbers that start with 03 are charged at the same rate as standard landline numbers that start with '01' or '02'. If your phone tariff offers inclusive calls to landlines, calls to 0330 numbers will also be included in the same way.

    Call type
    Call cost
    0330 number from a landline
Included in any applicable call packages, otherwisestandard landline rates.
    0330 number from a mobile
Included in talktime and bundled minutes, otherwisestandard landline rates.
Are 0330 numbers free to call?
0330 numbers are not the same as freephone 0800 and 0808 numbers, but they can be called at no extra charge on many phone tariffs.

If your phone tariff offers free calls to landlines at certain times of day, or has inclusive calls or bundled minutes that cover calls to landline numbers, calls to 0330 numbers (and all other 03 numbers) will be included in these deals on the exact same basis.

All '03 numbers' work in the same way and are charged at the same rate. This includes 03300 numbers, 03301 numbers, 03303 numbers and all other numbers that start with the digits 0330, regardless of how the number is displayed or what the following digits are.

There was a thread about this recently.I have had this problem too. It seems impossible to access the web site via the CAMC front page that comes up inviting you to buy the Wi Fi even though it says that you can access the site for free. The only way I have managed to access the site is to ignore that page and just go to Google and click on the bookmark I have for the CAMC. Annoyingly though the CAMC Wi Fi page keeps popping up and I have to keep cancelling it. Using Android tablet and Windows 7 net book.

We sometimes had this issue at work. Remembered when I read your post Peegeenine, a year out of the job and it's forgotten! We used to suggest opening up any webpages to get the login page pop up. But you don't have to login to use free part of CT. You could try getting at it a different way if it allows.

I had the same problem when we stayed at Stamford back last month, thought it was just a blip, haven't been able to try it since as not been on a club site with wifi.

Never had a problem before accessing the club website, until this year.

I raised this issue by telephone and email with CAMC and Airangel when we were at Bridlington site in June. I was even phoned back by Airangel and asked to give a detailed explanation of the problem. Despite promises to sort it within 20 working days I still cannot access the free CAMC site via the front end screen of the CAMC/Airangel pay site. However I can get in by using a search  or clicking on it in most visited or history.

KjellNN I have taken the liberty of reporting tjis thread as it appears you are not alone.

Hopefully the club will respond as I've not had acknowledgement of reports I've done nor seen replies from staff on the threads. Sadly this seems to be the norm since the upgrade 😢

Do not hold your breath! I had conversation with Web team and Airangel and my original emails and acknowledgements from CAMC and Airangel  about this issue were on 14 June promising some action in 20 working days. Nothing seems to have been changed yet.

We having finally managed to connect.  OH had a webchat with Louisa at H.Q. using our own wifi and she suggested asking warden to reset router as too many people using for things like streaming, facebook, skype etc.

Site is full and wifi only bronze.

Warden reset router and 25 minutes later we managed to get connected.......no doubt the people using up the bandwidth have gone to make their dinner!

They should take heed of the club's request not to be selfish and let everyone have a chance.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions!

Would suggest you contact the club and ask/tell them to sort it out. You pay the club for the wifi not Airangel, it is like buying a car and the garage saying contact the manufacturer to get any problems resolved.

I suppose it is not unreasonable to give bandwidth priority to those who have paid to use it  ....  and ensuring 'free' access to make bookings, while restricting access to CT etc would be rather over-complicating things.

(I've still got 8GB left on my 12month/12GB   '3'  SIM  which will expire soon, so wouldn't bother me frown )

The Club make a point of saying that you can visit the website without having purchased wifi access, so I think it reasonable that you should be equally able to do exactly that whether you have paid or not.

We are not totally without internet access as we still have about 4GB left on our 3 SIM, so should be plenty, but it also has 7 months to go till it expires, so would prefer to not use it all up on this trip.

Last year at York Beechwood when we did have purchased Air Angel time, we still had a problem getting on line, apparently the wifi there is notoriously poor, so having paid does not seem to give any priority.

I had reckoned it was due to the wifi being rather limited, but the warden reckoned it was fine and nobody else had reported any problems.

I would actually have expected it to be worse in the evening when everyone is "home", but until about 20 minutes ago it was fine, then suddenly the same problem again, so now back using our 3 SIM.

    Thanks Rowena.

We still cannot get onto the website this morning, just like yesterday afternoon and late evening.

IMO the problem most likely is that the router has been oversubscribed and therefor new users have been barred from logging on even if others have stopped using the wifi.  The only way to resolve this is a manual reset of the router as it appears it cannot reset itself.

Is this something that on bronze sites the wardens could be asked to do on a regular basis?

When this occurred at Bridlington in June the warden tried resetting the router more than once with no effect. When the CAMC web team referred this to Airangel and I had a lengthy conversation with one of their staff based in England he thought he could solve the problem with CAMC assistance. I have found the emails I exchanged with both stating they would look into and solve the problem. Obviously it was not done.

I think we could well be looking at two problems here. The inability to access the site, either on the free or paid sections, due to limited bandwidth has always been an issue. Often as KjellNN says, this requires a system reboot to sort out the problem.

However, after the introduction of the new website there was an issue of no free access to CT etc. This was certainly the case when we were at Chatsworth in March. Although I could sign on for paid access easily. There was a thread discussing the problem at the time and HO stated there was a known problem they were addressing. On the same thread they announced they had solved the problem and free access was now available. Certainly since that date we have not had an issue.

So is the old problem back, perhaps due to IT playing about with the site to try and solve other things, they have undone something.

Maybe a delberate ploy on bronze wifi sites to limit users to those that pay?smile

    Hi SteveL

You are most probably correct as both previous occurrences were the day after system down for maintenance. If you recall in June you told me to try a search for bt.com which strangely brought up the log in page but the visit website button would then work. Just tried it again and yes it does work and activates the button!

Another 24 hours of the same....no access.  I have not asked the wardens to reset the router again.  When they did on the first evening of our visit, we got access almost immediately, so it cannot be put down to the fact we have not bought Club wifi.

We were also able to access the website at Tewkesbury without problems.

For me, it is the same problem we experienced a year ago. In the last 12 months we have visited Ashridge Farm 6/7 times and the problem has been the same each time. My device connects to the CAMC Wi Fi and the front page comes up but clicking on the link to free access leads to a blind alley that seems to be the home page for the CAMC but there are no options to proceed anywhere else.
I then cancel the CAMC Wi Fi and click on Google and then my bookmark for CAMC and it works. Strange as I am not connected to any other Wi Fi source. My device keeps trying to connect to the CAMC Wi Fi but if I allow it to I lose the site so each time it pops up I cancel it.
The other strange thing that I have experienced a couple of times is when using my Android tablet it sometimes works the same as my Windows 7 net book with up down scrolling and sometimes it works in Android mode with that ridiculous side scrolling business.

We have both tried every way we can think of, but nothing works here.  Still cannot get onto the website this evening.

Our next site is Merrose Farm, tomorrow, wonder how we will fare there.

I know what you mean - with my tablet if I hold it portrait it does the sideways scrolling thing but if I remember to hold it landscape it's the normal vertical scrolling!

Now at Merrose Farm where the wifi is gold, our i pads connected immediately with no problem at all.

Have not been on a "silver" wifi site, so  no idea how we would fare there, but busy "bronze" ones seem to be a big problem.

Unfortunately, just checked the handbook, all the rest of our chosen sites appear to be bronze!

Currently at Tredegar House where the Wi-Fi is Bronze. Have to say it is pretty dire. Even with an internet booster system it  struggle  to down load e-mails. Almost impossible to get onto Club Together. It worries me that the Club have supposedly invested ten's of thousands of pounds in a system that is unfit for purpose. Either that or the people running the system are not up to the job. I have yet to visit a site where I get a seamless fast internet signal. At the end of the day members will vote with their feet and use other methods and all that investment will have been wasted.

The "gold" sites seem fine, very fast both here at Merrose and at Tewkesbury, but as you say, the bronze sites are dire.

Very glad we have our own 3 system with us!

I don't bother with club WiFi, use our own access. Have used "free" WiFi on a private site in Scotland, no problems. Expensive site so it's paid for somewhere!

Now on another bronze site, Ramslade, where we have, meantime, connected to the wifi without a problem.  Many vans look like the occupants are out for the day, so we will see how we fare this evening.

We are very close to one of the wifi aerials.

Just discovered that Ramslade has been upgraded to "silver" since the handbook was printed, so that explains why the connection is OK!
