Melrose club site directions.
Hi Everybody,
I am travelling to the Melrose site from Lancashire and the club only give directions from theA68 via Jedburgh, As I am going via the M6 then A7 through Longtown ,and Hawick, is there any reason I cannot carry on on the A7 through Selkirk and then on to Melrose instead of diverting over to Jedburgh. Looking at the map the A7 looks a better road than the link road across.
Yes I know the club put directions in books and websites for a reason but is there any reason why my planned route cannot be used.

No reason at all, HC. Have done the M6/A7 route many a time with both caravan and MH.
Isn't it really annoying when directions are given from only one direction? Not everyone lives in the SE and uses the east coast route.

The Melrose directions are really poor, almost assuming people know the area and don't need any guidance except from one direction! Hardly readable on line or in the book so make your own route in via what suits you. Enjoy your stay.

it's a good idea to follow the final few instructions as otherwise you end up driving through the village centre which is straight but sometimes narrow and congested with cars and people and then a tight left turn into the site approach road and easy to miss, Ok for a MH but I find caravans have to swing out a bit. Coming the other way it is a better road all the way and an easy right turn. Also the rugby pitch and and ground gives you ample warning for the turn.
It's a great site, have you been before? a few of the local restaurants give 10% of club members, details in the information room.

Space allows for limited directions in the Sites Directory and we focus on the instructions for the final, often tricky approach only.
It is noted that the Melrose Gibson Park instructions are a little too brief. I'll let Publications know.
We often use "From N:" and "From S:" for the more generic directions (for example Pg 157 Cheltenham Racecourse, Midlands) We also use "From E:" and "From: W" when there is a very different route to site depending on direction travelling. But not in all cases, so this too is noted.

It would also help if a reminder not to rely on sat navs for directions to sites was published on all pages of the site directory, and also the web pages for all sites,its very easy to forget that post codes in rural areas can cover several routes/destinations

Maybe the confirmation email could give ALL full directions to the booked site. Just an automatic add on feature, triggered by the booked location.
Edit just remembered confirmation email can't get the arrival time right. 😲😲
With regard to written instructions I would expect this to be the clubs recommendation for roads in the area - not that there was insufficient room to print it all 😲. At least a note to say other routes are OK, possibly full routes online BUT not everyone has access to the webpages whilst away. We're a motorhome so if white man can go there so can we! It is not the same with caravans being towed.
There is a review on Berwick site that Club's sat navigation takes you down narrow dead end Road and having to uncoupled and use motorhomers and it taking 30 minutes.

I would agree that often the directions only give the best route from one side. When using the M ways, the best junction to use can be different depending on where you are coming from, so more guidance would be good. Same with A roads too.

Reference to directions to sites,I have been "speaking" to a currant member of the Warden community and was advised that the reason that the routes to sites in the sites directory are a not as comprehensive as in the past, is that a edit from EGH requested site staff to reduce the amount (yes its site staff who give that sort of info to HO)as they said it was not required,

The CMC caravan site in the little town of Melrose is really easy to find. It is well signposted from high St (the main road through that small town.)
The road leading to the site entrance is opposite the famous Rugby ground, also well signposted.

Thanks everybody for your time and your replies, we are heading up there this weekend and I think we'll be taking our planned original route.
At least my question has come to the attention of club staff who might have a look how the site directions are listed in the future.
