CMC site v Commercial

This is not a rant or complaint. It is a direct comparison between 2 sites I have visited during the school holidays, both visits with wife, 2 grandchildren each time, and dog. All kids around the 8 to 10 age group.

Seacroft club site.

21 nights (6 different kids, 2 at a time each week)

Cost £49.50 per night- hardstanding, full service.

Kids playground - rubbish, very small, limited facilities more for very young children

Pool. Good, heated, lifeguard on duty

Clubhouse - cheap beer, typical pub grub, evening entertainment aimed at kids but too late in the evening for ours.

Toilets - inadequate for size of site, cleaning inadequate and at times absolutely filthy, with used toilet paper thrown on floor, toilets not flushed etc. Probably what you expect ofva seaside resort site but not club standard

Wifi - no internet connection due to ISP problems, and as you all know, not cheap.

Love2Stay -Shrewsbury ( an affiliated site)

Brand new site this year.

Cost £30 per night

Pool - natural pool, unheated, no life guard. Hot tubs to warm up.

Clubhouse - good quality pizzas, but no other choice. Drinks quite expensive.

120 hardstanding, full service pitches

Kids playground - excellent, enormous with a range of equipment for all age groups

Daily organised activities for kids (additional cost)

Toilets - clean, more than adequate, good quality

Wifi - FREE. Fast, fibre connection with multiple access points around site.

My main point I think is the vast disparity in cost. Commercial site £20 per night cheaper with far superior facilities.

I think comparing a site at Cromer with a site at Shrewsbury is totally unrealistic. Try comparing with a commercial site near cromer or simply use the one you consider better value and most suited

Love to stay does say £33 with kids and including CC discount. Seems a good deal. Not much use if you want to be in Cromer though wink

I personally would run (or perhaps tow) a mile from any site (club or not) that has either a swimming pool and/or bar and yes I've had kids and if we wanted those thing then we would go to them, no criticism of anyone who does intended.

It totally sounds as if the club site came off worse, apart from the important life guard. Like I have said many times, each spends their money where they think it gives them best value or quality.

Were the occupancy rates the same nutsytvr? and did you still enjoy the the club site?

I do so enjoy these threads that start off "this is not a complaint" and then turn into a ...er...complaint, however cunningly disguised! wink

As I said, not a complaint or rant, and to me the location is irrelevant for this comparison.

    Both were full occupancy

I was only at Cromer because it has kids facilities and full service pitches. Could be anywhere in the country for my grandkids.

Yes we did enjoy the club site, apart from the pitch flooding reported in separate thread.

Yes I also run a mile from kid friendly sites most of the year, but we have 10 grandkids, all of whom want a caravan holiday with us. Needs must. My point was the cost / facility comparison bearing in mind the critiscm elsewhere on this forum of cmc prices this year. Personally, I knew the cost in advance and accepted it, no complaints.

Seems impossible on this forum to post a factually correct report without someone having a go.

The love2stay site looks a good deal as I said if it is purely the site that is wanted for kids.

Not a complaint Moulsey. If it was I would have said so. I am an unreconstructed Yorkshireman who tells it ss it is.

We have stayed at the Cromer site when our kids were younger and yes it was full then. We had a fantastic seaside family holiday. There was a big show on the field opposite, we walked easily to the pier, the kids swam in the pool, we fished for crabs at Wells etc etc

Passed the site the other day on my bike and it appeared equally fullish, the bit I could see from the road.

I know where the Love 2 stay site is in Shrewsbury, pass it very regularly.....

In my opinion you are not remotely comparing like for like, and whilst £49 is expensive, the comparison between the two sites is meaningless....

I, too, think comparing a site in a seaside town with an inland site is not really like with like but I wonder, seeing the AS is a new site, whether they are deliberately keeping prices down at this point in order to build up a customer base. Let's check back in 2-3 years.

Bit like the CMC then. Start low, build up a membership then jack up the prices.

Much of what is said above is fair comment regarding comparisons,  but many peeps on here say they use CMC sites because they are all of a similar standard and you know what you are going to. IMHO not so with Cromer. And surprised that tents are accepted there - thought this was a caravan and mhome club?

Quite right David, but kids not old enough yet to either do the journey to France with us, or fly independantly. You may have seen on the overseas forum that Gwen and I  and dog do most of our caravanning in France and Spain.

tents are accepted on some sites, but always in their own separate area, not on main pitches

Clearly as Seacroft is said by the OP to have good to high occupancy it's difficult reach a conclusion that it is too expensive. I could agree on some of the comments about the site but none the less it is very popular. On the other hand the Love2Stay site is brand new this year so it's probably a bit early to judge how their fees will eventually settle down. They also have an excellent competitor in the shape of the Morris Leisure site so maybe you would need to look at how Love2Stay compares price wise. Having only been able to holiday in the UK this year we are finding some Club sites quite expensive and sometimes the difference between Club sites with almost identical facilities is difficult to work out. My advise would be to always do a site review and mention the price if you really think it is way over the top. I think there is a tendency to take a bit more notice of comments in reviews that there are on this forum.

Hmm, start low and take 110 years to reach this level of pricing. Hardly a sudden jack up. laughing

You must surely have realised that many club sites take tents, Nuts.

There are a few club sites out there that break the mould. Long may it be so. Variety supplies something for everyone. smile
