Hello Everybody. This is our second season as Motorhomers, loved our first season last year, so we have decided to be a bit adventurous, and do the NC500 from 4th Sept. for two weeks. I've booked all the sites we wish to stay at, and have started planning my route, when suddenly, I have come across a couple of obstacles I would like some advice on please.

I am leaving Thurso traveling west on the A836/A838 for Tongue and Durness. Looking on Google Earth, a few miles after Bettyhill on the A836 there is a very narrow bridge over the River Naver at Invernaver. Crikey that bloody thing looks narrow, so I wondered if anyone has encountered this bridge with a Motorhome, and the one further along on the A838, Hope Bridge that crosses the River Hope. Both look really narrow to me, and I'm wondering if my Swift Lifestyle 590 RS will be ok to cross these bridges with it's width being 7'3". I hope so, as we would love to do this route across to Durness. I can't see any road signs on Google Earth with the width of these bridges, nor can I find any info online. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

It will be fine. It's the main road used by all traffic travelling across the top.

Dustbin wagons, delivery trucks etc all use these roads.  You will be fine.  Just be aware of other traffic and get into the passing places to allow locals to pass.  Give yourself time to enjoy the views.

Thank you Tinwheeler, and Biggarmac for your comments. I did wonder how larger vehicles traveled from East to West on those roads doing their deliveries, it was just that the bridges in question looked mighty narrow on Google Maps. Maybe it's just the way the camera they use was set. Anyway, just got a bit more route planning to do, and then really looking forward to this trip. Thank you.

You're welcome. Don't worry about it but just enjoy your trip. We've done it as have many others.
